Hi Everyone,
Im sure not coping well at the mo, all this pain is unrelenting and just wont give up!!!!! Its sure driving me insane:( Just over a week ago I was put on some new meds and had to stop my old ones dead in their tracks even though your supposed to be weaned off them! but oh no my gp just stops them there and then, end of!!! Anyway I thought Id start feeling a bit better once these new ones kicked in, but boy I dont!!! So far I have no side effects from them so I know I could safely go on a higher dose, but because these meds are controlled substances and require a special prescription in order to get them,I now have to wait till my own gp is back in surgery so that I can try and get in to see her!!! I will ring the surgery monday morning and see when shes in next. Until then god knows  keep on going insane I guess..........Sorry for rambling and for seeming or sounding full of self-pity as believe you me, this is SOOOOOOO not me!!!! Hope you are all fareing (doing) better than me at the mo luv to ya all Demi aka welsh;)

You don't need to apologize, those of us up at this time know how it is. Having someone who doesn't quite know what they're doing puts you in the position of doing your research! Some meds can be switched without titration if they are similar strengths.
Hang in there, at least you can get meds.

I am so sorry Demi that you are forced to suffer waiting on your doctor to be available to you. I have been there many times over the past four years. Just remember to speak clearly and rationally when you finally do get to speak to the doc. The first time my nerves were so raw I just blurted out "I need your help, where have you been". That did not go over too well. Thankfully I apologized right away realizing it wasn't his fault he had others to attend to besides me. We got it straightened out but living with pain means living with waiting for help too, I have learned.

I pray you don't have to wait too long. Hang in there and come back and chat about it as much as you need to in the meantime.

Demi, I am so sorry the new meds aren't helping. I didn't realize the doc had you stop the old meds cold turkey! Sometimes I wish doc's could spend a day feeling as we do daily, maybe then they would understand just how bad things can be. I think they may be a bit more empathetic.

Since tomorrow is Monday, if she isn't there is it possible to be seen by another doc?

Sweet Demi, I wish I could do something to help you! If it helps to vent, do it here or in our other forum. I would have never known if I didn't see you here!

Wishing you all the best, Kathy

Thanks everyone. Kathy as always my dear friend thank you for your kind words. Im gonna make sure I go to the surgery first thing tomorrow morning and get the dose upped a bit higher. I am totally wacked, and feel so beat and wiped out yet I cannot sleep, nor can I seem to get myself comfortable no matter how I try!!!! Wish I could run away somewhere and leave all this darn pain behind, even if just for 1 day!!!! (woulnt we all though lol ). I agree doctors should try living our lifes for a bit, then they just might be more willing to help and show us some compassion, and not treat us as if we are making a nuiscance of ourselves and as if we are over reacting or being neurotic!!!!!! Yeah right!!!! Sorry for rambling guys. Demi

Demi,I know you will think I'm batty-but please at least try Castor Oil. It does help my knee & hand pain from arthritis. If I could bathe in the stuff I would! have hubby rub it on your back or wherever you have pain that you cannot reach.

I hope you get trough to the doctor tomorrow,if not then ask what you can do since it's been a week of hellish pain for you!

Take care of yourself, don't let this get you down too much.....try to imagine tomorrow being a better day. If I could take away your pain I would surely do it!

Demi,
I am so sorry that you have to go through such unpleasantries. One time I found out how to get hold of this doctor who took me off my pain meds while I was in the hospital. (for an unrelated illness) I began to actually experience withdrawal. The nurses said it was 3 AM and were sure he was in bed asleep and shouldn't be disturbed. My retort was, "If I cannot sleep, why should he?" They wouldn't call him, so I asked to see my records, I had that right. His number was on them. I called him up, got him out of bed. Told him what the problem was. He told the nurses to give me my medication. Too funny. But, one must be strong.

I get so aggravated when a doctor is out of reach and you need someting. If there is not provision for a substitute Dr. to help you what is a person to do? Often these Dr.'s don't have a clue as to the exact ratio of equivalents when they arbitrarily decide to switch your meds because some med company salesperson offered them a trip to the "Isle of Heaven Help Us All" for prescribing their meds rather than the other brand.

It's just a game to some and unless they speak with a good pharmacist first, they all too often, miss the mark. Who suffers, why, you my Dear One. And I am so Sorry.

This is why I have some meds extra. If a Dr. should decide to cold turkey me, I am prepared. Sound paranoid? Well, I learned through experience, and from others experience on this thread and other sites.

Good Luck Dear One, and in the future, start now to devise a plan "B".

God Bless You,
hoops

Pati dear castor oil sure does bring back memories now you`ll probably think Im batty lol I was overdue with my 2nd daughter and someone suggested I take some castor oil orally, but batty ol` me thought they meant the bottle (hee hee) lol........ well lets just say that the bathroom was my best friend for best part of 2 days lol and no the little madam still didnt appear until about 9 days later!!! I`ll have to remember to buy some when I go shopping again! You see as I live in such a rural place, out in the wilds my meds get prossced and dispensed at the doctors surgery, so unless I go out to town I cannot buy or get any extras, which is a darn shame and an inconvienience sometimes too! Pati dear all ideas, suggestions and advice greatly recieved everytime my friend, thank you very much hun XX
Hoops I reckon Ive been real lucky in one respect as the only withdrawls I had by coming off the other meds straight off was nausea for a few days, so all in all not too bad! And once I get the dose of these new meds upped a bit I hope that I`ll be able to get back to some sort of normallity, whatever that is these days lol, thing is Im realistic enough to know that no matter what nothing will ever take away this pain completley, but I at least excpect something to take the edge away off it, if not a bit more on top! Seems with some doctors even thats too much to ask lol. Oh the joys of living with chronic pain lol. Sorry guys but I gotta try n laugh or I will go potty n barmy for real lol Love and best wishes and a million thank yous everyone ***X Demi aka Welsh

Demi, sorry I didn't respond sooner as I had posted earlier and I didn't check but it never got posted. I am so sorry that you are suffering and can't contact your doctor. I hope, with tomorrow being Monday, you will be able to get your dosage increased. Find the most comfortable position for you ie soaking in the tub, laying down, watching TV and get as relaxed as you can.

Oh Demi, that's too funny about drinking an entire bottle of castor oil! And it brought back memories of 40 yrs ago when my first son was born. I was given "something" & told to stay near the toilet. Well I'd never had any kind of laxative nor given birth & for awhile there I was sure the baby was gonna come out in the toilet!*fairies*sparkle

Here's some magic stardust to spread around until you get those pain meds today!

And get some sleep, that will help.

Demi, even though you didn't get to see your gp I am glad to hear your meds were increased before she saw you. Too many doctors would let you suffer until they got to see you. I hope you can come back and give us good news about your pain levels.

Demi,

I am so happy you got to talk to your doc, and she was willing to help you! So take it easy and let the increase tell you what you can do. Sometimes increases can cause dizziness, drowsiness etc, so please be careful.

OMG I finally looked up Isle of Anglesey......that castle is so awesome! And the scenery is like nothing I've ever seen. I have a question: do you eat pasties there? I know they are something made for the miners originally but was just wondering if it's from your part of the world?

You might google Deception Pass WA to see some of our local scenery. Or LaConner WA.

yes we sure do Buttons lol but to be honest they are more common down in Cornwall, as they are in fact known as cornish pasties, and thats down on the south west coast of england!!
Ok will do later hun when I get back from my hospital appointment later on this morning Demi X

Hey there Demi:

I just read your thread....although you and I haven't ever "talked" I wanted to pass on that you will also be in my thoughts and prayers. It is very very difficult to deal with cp and everyone has unique problems, requirements, etc. Unfortunately, as I learned while in practice as a veterinarian, sometimes docs are forced to often generalize in practice....I see you are in the UK so I don't know if health care there is as screwed up as it is here....however, something I know is rampant all over the world is folks living in terrible pain even when meds are available.

I can also tell you that my experience with this since 2001 is similar as well. Coping is something that I'm not sure I even fully understand today. I do know that when my wife (a single woman on this planet that there will never ever be another who could compare) begins to indicate she cannot cope the change has to be made. For me it is changing meds, reducing some, etc.

I'm not fully sure why your doc has elected to treat you this way.....but, I think any time a significant change is made like that he/she needs to at least make another doc available to you in his/her absence. I'm hurting for you knowing the pain you must be enduring.

It's not much, but know that you have another person out there thinking and praying for you, individually by name, and will continue to do so. If there is ever anything I can do...email at: tjandfon@hotmail.com....I'm the "ask the vet" guy on way too many forums....just know I'm here to help and never feel like you cannot email if you like.

Regards,

Troy Jones, DVM
