Hi all! I am home from the hospital, at least for now. I went in for an appointment with my doctors PA on Tuesday and he sent me to the hospital, to try to figure some of this stuff out. Now of course, my doctor is on vacation until Monday, but he turned us over to a partner until he returns. They did another MRI and a bunch of blood work and started me on some Steroids to help with the inflammation in my back. They are calling it Aseptic Meningitis......it's not as bad as it sounds. It's not the dangerous contagious type, it's caused by the patch they put on to try to fix the leak back in March when they first discovered it. They started me on a Steroid, which is the treatment for this. It's not infectious, but it is rear in cases that have to do with the lower back. In 90% of the cases of this type, it is from a surgery in the neck area or upper part of the spine.....so I'm one of lucky 10%. :rolleyes: Anyway, they are giving me until Wednesday to see if it works. I have an appointment with my doctor and we'll see what the next course of action will be. If this doesn't work, I'll more than likely have to have a scan of my spine with contrast so they will hopefully be able to see the leak. Then if they find it, I'll have to have surgery again, but before they do, I want to make sure they absolutely know where this thing is. I'm tired of them cutting on me. The MRI showed that I do have a fluid collection started again, but they can't tell if it's residual or being held behind the swelling. So by Wednesday they should know if the steroid is going to work or not. The doctor who was taking care of me at the hospital said we can see after 5 days how it goes. He wasn't very pleased that after 3 doses there was no change at all. So time will tell.
I'll keep you all up to date as we find out more. I am on bed rest with restroom privileges only, I'm so excited....but I think it's Princess time for mom. Please keep us in your prayers.....I has been difficult for all of us....my husband is concerned about all of us and about work with no vacation left; then kids wanting to go to Grandma's for a week, but they don't want to leave me...which right now I can't be left alone. It's just been hard on all us for the past several months. Hopefully we have a light at the end of the tunnel. We are so blessed that with persistence and bugging them almost every day (thanks Laura for the advice) that the doctors are finally saying enough is enough and trying to do something...We just have to focus on God and we know He will get us all through this.
