This is sort of a continuation from the other questions I was asking in the other thread.

When you take an extended release med, let's say 100mg as an example from the other thread, are you getting a continuous 100mg dose or is that 100mg released in little bits of an extended period of time. I.E., or are you really getting, just for the sake of an example, 25 mg. released over 4 hrs?

So I'm taking oxycontin, 10 mg., am I getting a constant 10 mg dose or is that 10 mg. being released at a rate of 1.2 mg over 8-10 hrs?

I never thought of all this before.

Thanks, Linda

Hi Gimp,
First off, the stated amount of mgs. is the total amount in the tablet/capsule. Next, I believe that after you take the pill approximately 30% of the total amount is released immediately and then the balance is slow released over the next 12 hours.
I'm not a hundred percent sure about this but I'm sure Steve or someone will be along to correct me, if necessary.

Feel Well,
Pete

The total mg in the tablet/capsule is the dose.

The Fentanyl patch is does as mcg/hour.

The time release mechanisms varies among products, as does the amount of immediate release.

Oxycontin is 38% immediate release.
Avinza is 10% immediate release.
Fentanyl and Kadian are 0% immediate release.
