My kids are crazy about coins/money. No surprise there. Vince got into coins when he found a nickel in our change pile in the laundry room that turned out to be 200 years old or something - it has a buffalo on it, it's a buffalo nickel.
So, the favor is...Can I get someone with different coins than we have here in the USA, to send me two sets of your coins, and I'll do the same! I can send a set that has penny, nickel, dime, quarter, and a half dollar and dollar if the bank has them.
Anyone interested in trading with me? I'd love them from anywhere, the UK, Australia, NZ, Mexico, Canada, anywhere!!!!
It'd be a really inexpensive but thrilling gift for kids. I might make a note from Santa saying while he was flying over such and such country he got some hot cocoa and decided to give them his change.
Ok, let me know! I've been meaning to ask forever.
I know there are ppl here from all over.

Oh man that is such a cool creative thing to do Milli! I am so impressed with your creativity, that is a really cool idea! I am in the US too of course but I just HAD to post and say that I love this idea and the one about making a note saying Santa gave Vince his change from a coco he bought on the way around the globe is precious. You are something special lady. :D

I agree, awesome idea. If you live near the airport you'll be able to exchange currency there, or maybe at a Travel Agency if they do it. I like the note idea too :)

Hey Pam is that anything Jackie would be interested in? If not, think of something Wisconsin has that Florida does not like a pine cone or whatever and I'll send it while he still believes in Santa and all things magical.
That'd be so cool Matika! You don't have to send lots or anything, would your kids think anything like that is neat? I'd love to send something back. If not coins, tell me what they would think was really neat to get from Wisconsin from Santa (no I won't send cheese, hee hee). An ornament for your tree? Let me know. And Thank You Thank You! This will be perfect for both kids. Carmen can find what a 'peso' is and it's value, etc.... and Vince can get on the puter and see all the 'weather' the coins have experienced in Mexico especially being as it has so much that borders the ocean.
Hi Fe-fe, yeah I know there's other ways I could get coins, and that's a good idea. I guess I like any chance I get to be closer to the folks here. I don't just want foreign coins, I want them from my mgh family. Yes, I'm a shameless big mush like that around the holidays.
Speaking of the weather in Mexico...Vince (who is totally into all things weather related) said something so funny, he was driving me nuts with his high energy level, I asked him to stop being so wild and he asked, "Do you want me to be light and variable?" Baawawawawaawawaa!!! Yes Vince, I DO!

Yep... my sister put our tree up today. While she got the fun part of decorating the tree (she always insists that she do it her way ) I was the slave - "get me a twistie tie." "get me a power board." She couldn't find the container of decorations in the storage cupboard and was like "Where is it? Where did "you" put it?"

Wow! I just do presents in advance, cause if I do it little by little then Christmas isn't such a chore or financial drain...all the gifts go in our closet in the basement which the kids never go in. But I'm not quite in the Christmas spirit enough yet for a tree...wow your sister sure has the Christmas spirit!

Oh yeah he loves quarters, (to him pennies, nickles and dimes are all quarters) and dollars. He definitely would recognize that other coins are not quarters though. He likes to put any loose change he finds in my purse too. It's so funny. LOL! :)

Pam, let me know then...I'll be happy to send some 'Wisconsin' coins if he wants. It'll look the same as Florida though so think of something 'wisconsinee' and 'Santa-ee' I can put in the parcel. Hey, what about coins from an arcade??? Or Chuckee Cheese coins??? I could get some of those if you think he'd like it.

Ohhh Lizard, I mean 100 years...listen to what I mean, not what I say, lol. Seriously, I remember now, when I looked his up it was from 1913, so I told him it was 100 years old (close enough).
The coin I found though (I wasn't a twirler or spinner, I was a digger) I dug up and it's from around 500BC, or so some guy once said. It's way cool, I've never found it anywhere else. It has Roman numerals VM on it (I guess they're roman numerals) and some kind of animal with two long horns standing on it. There is no picture on the back, cause it's like stamped so the back is an indentation of the front. I enjoy pretending it's worth billions and me and the kids will finally get to see the ocean and I'll have this way cool mansion where families and kids can come live and get free RDI and it winds up a community and everyone gets along like people are supposed to treat eachother cause only kids both nt and aspie and only adults on the spectrum are allowed to write the bilaws for the community...(geez it's like I need to breathe into a paper bag here that fantasy is so joyful to me, lol). But most likely it's worth a thousand bucks, per the same guy that knew how old it was. He was a vendor our company had from a place called International Coins and Currency, so he probably knew. That was 15 years ago. When I get my software loaded back into my puter I"ll post a pic of it. You'll probably love it. I used to have a ton of silver quarters too, I always could 'hear' them if there were any when I shopped as a kid with my ma, to her embarassment I'd HAVE TO go to the sound of the silver quarter and ask the cashier for them. Ok I'd ask the cashier to drop her quarters so I could find the silver one and get so upset if they wouldn't do it they'd do it cause they couldn't figure out what was wrong with me so obeyed out of confusion even though I was only a kid and they didn't have to do anything I said really. Wow that was a long sentence. Anyhow, as a teen, I still can't get over doing this, I bought several packs of cigarettes out of the machine with my silver quarters...they were always in my pocket so I could hold them and 'clank' them together and just sort of feel them. It's like, for that moment 'I forgot' I needed to use the other quarters I had in the other pocket, guess it was a nicotine fit.

Ok ok...here's the coin I dug up, as a child, cause I was not a flapper or spinner or twirler, I was a digger :D
It's my 'dream' coin. I pretend it's worth millions. Anyone have any idea what it is? I can't even figure out the animal on it. You might notice, there is a VM on the bottom. I was once told it was from 500bc that it was Sicilian (or did he say Syrian) and it was worth about $800. That was close to 20 years ago. As you can see, it's stamped...the image on front is the same as the back, just one side goes in and the other out, like something that is embossed.

I have always been very interested in old coins, have no idea why. Maybe cause of the one I dug up. But I don't think so, I've just always been very interested in coins, no matter what their worth, just regular coins even. Maybe some 'static' system. Even as a kid, I refused to spend a penney, saved every coin I found, was always on the look for them. Just like 'em! But now, with kids, coins slip in and out of my life like goo off a hagfish.

I thought it meant 995 as in 1000(M) minus 5(V). At any rate, the Romans were on a different calendar...so how would that translate to the age of the coin? I was interested enough to try to search online for info, but ran out of time.

I'm pretty darn sure the coin dude told me Sicilian, from 500 BC and worth about $800. I prefer to think $800billion, but you know, that's just me.
I too think of 'Roman' cause of the VM, but, who knows. I stink at history, did the roman's ever live in Sicily? My bloodline is Sicilian, but being adopted by the Polish, I consider my 'race' or what ever Polish. I mean, my ma was raised by her Polish ma, and was the person she was due to her upbringing by her Polish ma, and so on. Plus, how many 'real' Italians like saur kraut :o like I do.
What I really want to know is...WHAT IS THAT ANIMAL ON THE COIN? I thing the back of the coin shows it better. What the heck is that? Some kind of antelope??? The horns curve kind of like a Nyala, but I'm not real up on antelope.

Although very unlike me, I actually know where the place is...I just have no idea what 'Roman' exactly means, exactly is. Just kind of one of those things I never got. I used to think Romans were kind of like Zeus and Pandora and all that made up stuff. Then, I got it they were real people, fed Christians to lions and all, had a sophisticated sewer system too. But, it seems like they lived everywhere, not just in Rome.
Like, where did Romans come from? I never heard anyone say their 'Roman' like someone would say they're Irish or Arabic or whatnot. Are Romans actually Italians and visa versa...like what were romans before they were romans, and what are they now? Like I would suppose all white folks are origianally 'English' from England type of thing. I mean not everyone, but overall way back in the bloodline.
So, I have no idea why, but the word Roman never made a bit of sense to me. I can't explain what I don't get about it, cause I don't get enough to know what to ask. I don't think it's an aspie thing, it's just another example of my very small world. What exactly is a 'Roman'? Is a Roman the same as a Roman Catholic, or are their Roman Jewish too or what. Are all the roman's dead? Were they the ppl in that big pompei thing? I guess it's just one of those things I never got around to checking out or asking about.

Ooooh, well, my husband would probably know, if its knowable. But, I think they started in the city of Rome, then took over everything they could get their hands on in the immediate area and most of Europe (which of course wasn't called Europe then.) The Jews were taken over by the Romans but weren't Roman citizens. My husband is a history buff, and I'm not, but sometimes his stuff leaks through. Anyway, in this case, Roman would mean coins issued by the Roman government.

AH!!! A critical piece I didn't get. Ok, ok ok ok, this is starting to make way more sense now.
Funny how one piece of critical info can take a butt load of info in your head, that makes no sense, and make it make sense. Kind of like leaving a . or / or something off a web address and the puter can't make sense of it.
Ok, so this 'roman empire' and all that I've heard about, is now called something else - like I was picturing all these amazing stories about Romans coming out of Rome Italy, and not getting how such a teeny place yielded such 'empire' sized stories.
Found this http://intranet.dalton.org/groups/rome/RMap2.html
I had no freakin idea, at all, that things were so 'modern' then. Although, come to think of it, I did watch a pretty long show about how their medical tools and techniques for SURGERY are pretty much the same then as now. Which really surprised me of course.
This reminds me of the first boyfriend I had that was from Egypt, and I was totally shocked and didn't believe him that there was anything more in Egypt than lots of sand, several pyramids, and that one pyramid that lookes like a lion/pharrow dude is built into it.
I'm not sure if it's an aspie thing, or all the school I missed or what. I guess you have to flat out explain to me "there are more than pyramids in Egypt" when explaining that's what is there, which, school did not. Know what I mean? See, I don't want to come across as being an aspie thing if it's not, cause that's misleading to those that might try and gain insight into their kids on the spectrum. I did spend much time moving from house to house, school to school, so did miss tons of education, especially the year in high school I was in that asylum. But, I type all the stuff that I don't get, not to be labeled stupid or whatnot, but cause I think if it is an aspie thing, maybe it will help parents not to leave stuff out when talking to their kids.
Just yesterday, it was so darn cute...poor Vince was devastated cause he finally got confirmation from me that indeed his pits do stink. I thought he'd be thrilled, cause that means 'puberty', seemingly his favorite word now. However, all the talk of his anticipation of pit hair and a mustache and bird fur sprouting in the pubic area was just that, all talk. Now that things are changing, he's totally freaked. I dunno why, but I am just enjoying the he!! out of explaining and rerererereexplaining it all to him. I let him know it won't be like SpongeBob, he won't have green fumes eeking out of his pits and everyone avoiding him, I showed him how to take a ***** bath - washed his pits and put on deodorant. Then confirmed he no longer had pit stink.
He still was upset, he said he was embarrassed, everyone would smell his stink. I explained that dad has more pit stink than him, and we never smell him. Then I flashed to envisioning him refusing to throw a ball in gym or any activity requiring him to raise his arm...and school punishing him for it, me trying to explain it, and them tacking on all kinds of complicated psychological nt reasons instead of getting it that he worries about others discovering his pits stink.
Well, we go through this whole path of logic, he starts feeling better, I tell him how all boys go through this, and girls dig on boys that have stinky pits and visa versa, try and explain phermones(sp). Explain it in terms of the animal kingdom (my forte). Then, his new concern, after seeing ever creature on the planet and in our home mate..."I don't know how to mate!" and he just sobs. He then describes this scenario, where he and his future wife will be sitting around depressed, cause he doesn't know how to mate and she is sad cause they can't mate. I fight laughter, I know this is hurtful to him, what what a great conversation we're having finally so I'm loving it. I first try to tell him that maybe she will know how to mate, so it won't be a problem. He quickly replies "what if she doesn't know how to mate either (then sobs) girls don't know how to maaaaaaaaate!" I tell him a bunch of stuff to avoid the answer he seeks, including he doesn't need to know this just yet...by now we've been talking 2 hours easy. Vince NEVER talks two hours or listens two hours. Finally, he is so totally freaked, I just explain missionary position in the least amount of detail possible, that you do it just like the hamsters and rats and birds except you face eachother. I totally question my decision to do this, but, recall 2 years ago him describing "boys put their wienie in the girl's me-me" (we call vagina me-me) but now realize, he had no idea that was 'mating' but just took it as a matter of fact way to get the sperm to the egg. I guess the talk about Rome and recalling what I thought of Egypt remindeds me of this. I mean, it just didn't occur to me that since he knew the mechanics of reproduction, it did not = 'mating' to him. So, he stops crying and watches SpongeBob. I don't say 'sex' or 'making love' to him yet, for the same reason I don't say vagina...easier for me that he doesn't have that verbal amo at school.
Ok, so, just a little (ok, long) story.

Well, I took ancient history classes like everybody has to in Jr. high and HS- but, I was so bored by it, that I remember exactly zero from there. For some strange reason (cuz, I'm still bored by it) my husband loves all this stuff and all things military, though he's never been in the military. So, he knows like every battle that was ever fought, like EVER, and what weapons were used and what strategies were developed (I'm not entirely sure he is not on the spectum). And he is more than willing to share this information, whether I care or not! I hate to go to movies with him with historical settings, because he just fixates on the inaccuracies and I lose the story line. So, between that, Monty Python, and a few church histories that I rea(or tried to), I just picked some stuff up.
Interesting conversation with Vince! I'm just trying to figure out how to discuss Allie's growing into a woman with her. She puts her head down or runs away or "puts" me away whenever I try to bring it up. Does anybody else's kid "put them away?" I mean she'll take my hand and lead me to my room, push me in and close the door.

But I happened onto that website that had a way to search for coins by the letter or number characters on them...still wasn't sure, because the wear is different and I had to switch back and forth from your images to the other site. I couldn't make heads or tails (heh, heh) of the informational text about it. If you can...I'd like to know more about the coin. Or maybe I'll see what my husband knows when he wakes up. Peglem you are totally amazing, I can't believe the stuff you found out about this. Plus you had me laughing with your 'heads or tails' pun, hee hee. And the stuff about dh - try being married to a bible thumper, don't EVEN get me started on all the hypocracies I could bust him at. But hey, better that than a satan worshoper type dude. That'd be aweful.
I found it in Wisconsin, so obviously that's not where it came from originally aye? I know to within one foot of exactly where I got it - I have an excellent memory of all the holes I dug and what I found in them, including a live wasp once outside a laundromat in Berwyn, Il. I recall my ma saying "have you learned your lesson now" and I said yes, then dug more holes. At the time, I thought the lesson was "a wasp came out of this hole". Of course, I get what she meant now, but just thought I'd mention that in case any of your kids say they learned their lesson then are unable to generalize so turn around and do what seems to be the exact same thing. Although, come to think of it I did continue digging in that hole, since the wasp was out anyhow, now it was safe.
My 'autistic thing' was not flapping or twirling but digging holes, straight down the width of my arm, with my bare hand until I reached my shoulder and could dig no more. I was entirely SATISFYING but I can't really tell ya why, dunno myself, the 'reward' of digging was getting the hole deep enough, so when I put my arm in there was sort of a 'donut' of pressure all the way around my shoulder including my pit.
I'm still totally impressed you found this, wow. Too cool. It's really neat to know...I'll have to find out more about it, from that link you gave me last. I think I love old coins cause it makes me feel like I can touch a part of what the coin went through, know what I mean? Probably the same reason lots of folks like antiques (that they purchase, not the sentimental kind you inherit), makes you feel a part of something through an object.
Wow, 520 BC, finally something older than the mess in the basement I need to clean, hee hee.

I quick tried to look up prices it could be worth, could be as little as $300 or as much as $4,000.
I will say one thing, had it not been almost 40 years ago that I found it, I would take out an ad in the paper and see if anyone replied. Life sucks enough, how cool would it be to get your ancient coin back, ya know? Makes me want to go back to that spot and do a little more diggin...another 50 or so coins and I could pay for some tutors for Vince to get FAPE and a special ed atty, hee hee.
I'm tellin ya, with all this school stuff going on, I'm ready to have a Pay It Forward marathon, watch it over and over for like 24 hours straight. (have you seen that, very nice movie, right up my idealistic alley).
Well darn, this is sure cool to finally FINALLY after all these years, know what it is, and where it came from. So so so cool. When things lighten up around here, it would be nice to look more into that history. How I hated history and many other things in school, that I find so darn interesting now. Except algebra, that was always interesting and fun, not just now.

Have I seen "Pay It Foward?" Its one of the movies Allie routinely obssesses over- so I've seen it a few bajillion times. Currently, she's on the Wizard of Oz. I have no idea how she chooses her movies- when she decides to retire movies, she'll just go through a bunch of them until she finds a suitable one...and she's set for at least a couple of weeks. Thank God she's off Fantasia! That "Pomp and Circumstance" piece nearly drove me crazy! Too bad Pay It Foward has sex in it, I think it would be a great movie for schools to use and kick off a payitfoward program of their own.
Anyway, my husband is a Bibles thumper too!..That's plural on purpose- he probably has about 10 bibles and they're all very used. But, I think anyone who aspires to high standards has to be a hypocrit, because the standard is what you aim to be, not what you're able to be. Although, I suppose one could perseverate on the bible without actually trying to live up to its message.

I thought you'd never ask!
(actually I didn't know you'd ask, but massively welcome the deviation from school thoughts)
Let's see...hmmm, well based on what was said about the coin, and the region on the sites on this thread and what I think, not what is actually reality.
I'd have to say:
Fillet-o-Posiden Sandwich
Caesar Salad with 'Krotons' / Olive Oil
McSicily Sliders
Calamari Jr.
BC McNuggets
AD low carb McNuggets
Drink flavors, red grape, green grape, purple grape
