once upon a time... a little old lady... with a restless mind, a big heart, a small needle and a long long piece of thread... wanted to start something fun and interesting... your participation and your feedback are essential, and more than welcome, for the realization of her wish !!! Let's share links to creativity websites, pictures, tips & patterns too...
Hi room,
Good morning... having my morning coffee... 1933
first time i open this thread... seeing some people i meet on other threads... i should certainly get myself up to date here after the move (3rd one this year...) BT is quite a vast world/community in itself, with people from all over the world, online 24/7... great !!! i'm still discovering after almost 2 months...
so, before posting again in this thread, i will read it all over... so that i will be keeping in mind the spirit of the thread... ;)
did you say quilting ??? :D sounds great... how about starting a new thread... :p about quilting... and other needle and thread crafts... crocheting, knitting, embroidery, crossed-stitch, stringing and beading, altered couture, etc... i would be glad to participate too :D as i think that if we (and we seems to be quite a bunch... of crafters, artisans, artists and creatives ones of all kind) have a specific thread on this, we'll be able to share, support and encourage each other in our little projects... one stitch at a time... one square at a time...
and since different crafts are a very important part of our different cultures, i was thinking of starting the new thread under the "Bridging the Cultural Gap" forum... join all cultures with little pieces of thread... could be called "The THREAD and NEEDLE thread !!!"...
well, i'll start it now, why not !!! here is the link to it... feel free to join me and give me your feedback... :) http://brain.hastypastry.net/forums/showthread.php?p=250073#post250073
in my new appart. i'll install my working counter/island in the middle of the kitchen with my drafting/cutting table, sewing table with the 2 sewing machines, and the computer desk... so, needle-ss to say that i will stick around it most of my time... :D:o:);):p;):):o:D

Love the vieod, that was great! Wish I could knit so well ;) Actually I wish I could knit period! I can crochet a little. I can sew some. I'd like to quilt one time. It's been awhile for cross-stich but I loved it. And my mom has a fancy embroidery machine so I don't do that.

Wow I like this, what a great idea Lavan. Here is my first post here. I know that a lot of us have circulation problems, I am one them. Spring may be here but my hands tend to be the last to figure this out. Here are a couple of links for those of us with cold hands and can knit or crochet,

Enjoy all.

:D Aaah...many moon ago while I carried my babies, I used to do 'crewel' stitchery and 'long stitch' needle point. It was a difficult task for me with vertigo.
I had all my work professionally framed...some behind glass. One is a beautiful young mother holding her infant, and then I, (in script) sewed the babies name and birth date. It is a beautiful memory, for me.
Another is a Chinese garden with a bridge, and still another of a cartoonish cat! :) I did a bunch.
My hands were nimble, then!
take care

Love the video Lavan.
I have 4 finished quilts in different sizes and another unfinished. Also a couple of needlepoint projects that are finished and need to be framed.
I have been laid up and it never occurred to me to work on it. Duh.

Thanks for starting this thread - a great idea! I always want to say what I'm working on, but know that so many people must get glassy-eyed when I start. :o
I'm a quilter and crocheter and cross-stitcher. I garment sew, too, just not so much now that the kids are grown and I don't like sewing for myself. I knit only the tiniest bit - I could learn more, but haven't the time, or maybe just don't take/make the time. Right now, I have several afghans in process, as I consider afghans carry-along projects, at least when they're still fairly small. I make quite a number of them every year, from baby size to large throw size ones. Besides, I can sit and crochet when I don't feel able to do anything else.
Quilting is probably my first choice of things to do, but it does require a lot of standing and bending for the cutting part. I do that when I'm feeling really good, and usually only for a few minutes at a time. I can sit and stitch without problems, usually, but cutting and then laying out slow me down.
Lavandula, you're right - we need to realize that we can do a lot, even if it is one square, one stitch, one row at a time. Slow and easy works just fine, and eventually we have something finished. I don't know about the rest of you, but I enjoy the process every bit as much as the end product and it serves to distract me sometimes from the pain/discomfort/frustration of whatever is going on.
So, who does what and what are we all working on?

HI ladies and welcome to gentlemen too... where are you you-ooo...
10$-Question: do you subscribe, or sometimes buy, arts and crafts magazines ? which ones? why ?
are you a member of a quilting/knitting/crocheting/weaving... club ? which ones ? why ?
near where i live, there is a traditional carpets club who meet once a month... i'm interested in seeing what they do... i missed their first show last spring... i'd like to get some info. and book lists, but i know i can't join any group because i'm highly sensitive to all perfumes/scented/cleaning products...
i have been buying, for about 1 1/2 years, some mags... Quilting Arts, Quilting Challenge $100,000, New Zealand Quilter, Magic Patch, Somerset Studio the Art of Paper and Mixed Media, Cloth Paper Scissors, Belle Armoire Art to Wear... plus some others once in a while... Fabric Trends, Quiltmania...
they're my preferred ones and i find they're very inspirational... ;) now i'm just waiting to get unpacked... installed... organized... and energized... :D

Short reply as I have reached the limit of my sitting time. I'm home from the hospital, but not doing any sewing yet. I did crochet for a few minutes last evening.
I get Quilter's Home by subscription, but don't know whether I'll renew. Much as I enjoy it, I don't know whether it will be on the priority list now that it looks like DH is on the lay-off list at work. I pick up Fons & Porter and a couple of other magazines - American Patchwork and Quilting, Quilter, Quilter's World. Sometimes they appeal to me, sometimes not.
A LQS not too far from me opens her classroom for anyone to go in and sew or chat or whatever on Sunday afternoons. Everyone is welcome - sort of a very informal bee - but it's usually a small group, two or three or four of us. We have a good time and sew while we chat. I was the most regular member, but it'll be a while before I go back now, as I can't drive and surely don't want to ride that far, either.
I'm hoping that sometime this week, I'll feel like sitting at the machine for a few minutes. I have pieces put together by the side of the machine, so ready to go whenever I feel like it.
Hope everyone is doing well and staying cool. Okay, I'm doing well, but staying cool? Not here in central TX, where yesterday was our 11th day of 100+ temps - not 11 consecutive days.

Hi all. Lavan I am so glad you are getting settled in. I don't subscribe to any quilting or sewing mags but I do belong to Creative Home Arts Club. I get the bulk of my sewing type books from the library. They always get in new stuff. I like to refer to it as my second home. I have been known to photo copy ideas. I also have an extensive collection of books that I inherited from my grandmother so anything I need to know about needle craft I can get from my own bookshelves.
I do know that there are groups that meet but as for free I have no idea and I suffer from a bit of social phobia so I tend to be perfectly happy listening to Judge Judy and sewing or whatever project I am working on.
I do have some photos, amid a bunch of others, of some of my more recent projects if anyone is interested. I still have a small wall hanging quilt that I need to get a picture of that I made for my mom. The yellow, green and orange one is my current project. I am still working on getting all the yoyos done. That is the hardest part. My hands won't put up with much. The album More Pics has many of my projects and my most current. The other album has my other quilts. Here is the link http://houghchrst.myphotoalbum.com/albums.php. (http://houghchrst.myphotoalbum.com/albums.php)
Well I hope you all have a great creative day.

Christina,
i find you look like a princess in your wedding dress...
i'm running on the slowww mowwwtion... fatigue and articulation intense pain accumulation, plus full moon week insomnia... and all this rain is not helping me at all... except that it gives me a break on watering my flower bed... :p i know it'll take me months to get organized... i just have to be good w myself...
still can't find my underwear... bought new panties last week... w all that rain, its so cool, i'll go buy new socks today... my boxes are well identified, what's in them, in which room they go, w 3x4" pieces of color cardboard... but the movers did'd not stack them the way i wanted (they mixed all categories...) so they're probably underneath the pile, or in the middle of the 6x4 rows... *ack
it's my nose-connected-to-my-brain that has social phobia, although my own social interests are quite selective... i would like to participate in a arts and crafts group... physically impossible... that's why i wanted to start that thread... one may wear fragrance, another one may smoke... and i won't get sick... :p hopefully it will keep being interesting... with all of us sharing...
w BT i discoverd a new family... thanks for being there and sharing...

Christina, thanks for sharing your albums. I don't have anything set up like that, but maybe should think of it so I can share some photos, too.
Too bad you aren't here by me; I'd drag you to Salado on Sundays and I think you'd enjoy it. No one forces you to join in or talk - we have one woman who shows up on rare occasions and sits down, stitches, and may not say a word all afternoon, except in response to a direct question.
I won't be working on much until I can sit up for more than 15 minutes, although I'm constantly amazed at how much I can do in just a few minutes. Working steadily is more important than working long, and I do know that, but sometimes I don't want to do something for just five or ten minutes.
Oh well, back to bed. I swear, the staples are making me nuts. They don't hurt exactly, but they don't feel good, either.
Best to all today,
houghchrst

Thank you Lavan.
Can't find your underwear. Ah...........does that mean you are going commando LOL.
Ah the full moon week, my fibro flare, arthritis acting up, mood way down. Yes explains so much.
Linda that does sound like fun and yeah if I don't have to keep up conversation then I am your woman lol. Yeah it only takes me a couple of minutes to sew on one of those yoyos but my hands and back start to hurt so bad that after 3 or 4 I have to change positions. I do it propped up in bed because I can have everything set up around me and I have this tray with legs that sits right across my lap that holds my threads and stuff. Otherwise I couldn't handle even that. I use to be able to sit in my beloved lazyboy but not anymore.

well, can't find the ones that are packed in boxes... but i have at hand the new ones bought last week... :p and i have enough for all month... when i find something that i like, i buy a lot... therefore, i won't have to rush and take the risk of breaking my back to find/access that box... tonight, i bought new socks too... special ones sand color for the times when i massage my feet w castor oil that i just bought today too... apparently it is very good for insomnia... i'll see that tomorrow...
talking of underwear... they give us the proof of serious climate change...
