Hello all,
Well life has been very busy! The last time I posted here mom was in a coma. Update, she is alive and has progressed to doing better with her memory, feeding herself(she had a peg tube and trach) Trach is gone too.
She went to rehab in Feb and did ok, they don't get them up alot once a day. She also got septic while she was there and about 3 bladder infections. She was walking with a walker and help prior to the infection. Finally on May 9 she came home and needs lots of help. I know this is reality, and recovery takes a long time. My question is her balance is bad, she tends to lean backwards, did anyone experience this? What can be done? Is it just time? She seems to have problems with her left eye too. Her left side is weaker than the right but is usuable. Its better than before so there is improvement, but I am concerned about her balance. Any help is appreciated.

Hi Smitty,

My mom had a brain tumor about 15 years ago. It took several years before she was comfortable and didn't feel her balance was off. As time did go on, her balance did get better, but only in gradual stages.

I was involved in a car accident two years ago myself, and have gone through a lot of the same issues as my mom. I know after the accident I had problems with my vision, but had been told that there was nothing wrong. I had been seeing a massage therapist, who was studying osteopath. I know that when he was doing some osteopath treatments, I had a change in my vision. It was unbelievable the changes that I had experienced with the osteopathic treatments. It might be worth a try for your mom.

Sorry to hear about your mom, I hope she continues to improve.
Here is an article about balance problems after brain injury (http://www.brainandspinalcord.org/recovery-traumatic-brain-injury/balance-improving/index.html) that might be helpful.
