I'm trying to understand what's up with the linking of the cache searches I've been trying to do? I just searched google for posts for someone regarding an RSI matter and found an old post of mine back in March this year. There are two things I'm trying to understand, and I've already asked part of this question once before with no reply.

1. Why does that cache search look the same as it does here, showing the Halloween graphic and all?

e.g. http://66.102.7.104/search?q=cache:OPDP88eqNYsJ:brain.hastypastry.net/forums/showthread.php%3Fp%3D1052862+braintalk+cubital+tun nel&hl=en&gl=uk&ct=clnk&cd=4
[This is G o o g l e's cache of http://brain.hastypastry.net/forums/showthread.php?p=1052862 as retrieved on 13 Apr 2006 04:21:49 GMT.]

2. Why is it that if I click on my username it takes me to another username that is linked to this new site?

Edited to add: This is totally whacko!!!
I just clicked on the link to the RSI forum in the google cache search (the url above) and it takes me to Phantom Limb Pain Forum HERE on this new forum. Shows me logged in and everything.

If I click on BrainTalk Communities on that cached url it takes me back here to this site showing me Logged in.

However,

If I try to log in on that cached url it comes up saying "In order to accept POST request originating from this domain, the admin must add this domain to the whitelist." ???

If that doesn't make sense, I'll explain it more clearly if necessary.
Thanks :)

once, my son told me that "cached" posts do link back to the
original source, if possible. The graphics are separate from the text.

I do agree, after clicking on your link that you provided, Lara, that it is puzzling.

Just as puzzling as the avatars that show up for people on caches, that have JL's brain attached!:p

The cached posts have been changing ever since we were down. Why, is an internet technical "mystery"... ;)

Most forum software use multiple pages to generate the 1 page you see as a member. Google doesn't cache some of these as it doesn't "see" them while it spiders the site.

While I don't have access to the actual files, my guess would be that the graphic used in the halloween banner has the same file name and path as the normal one does. So when Google calls up the overall_header page (one of the pages it doesn't really "see" to cache) it displays the current graphic.

This is because your screen name is linked to a userid. The userids got changed when we started with a clean database. So your old userid was assigned to someone else. The userids are generated at the time of registration, so for them to be the same you would have had to re-register here in the exact same spot in the list as you did the first time.

Same with threads, they have thier own id. These got changed with the new database. So while some threads will come back to the live/new forums, most will get you an error page because that thread id doesn't exist yet.

Thanks so much for taking the time to explain all that to me. I just couldn't figure out what was going on, and now I understand.

Much appreciated! :)
