Hi
My mum (87) has been taking Risperdal from May 8 and today I noticed a large rash under one boob. She has smaller ones over her body.
Not sure if it's due to Risperdal and the large rash looks like Cellulitis but I could be wrong.
She wont go to a doctor to see about it.Any suggestions?
Thank You.

It may be possible that there is more than one thing going on here. The generalized small areas of rash over her entire body may be due to the new medication. You might give a call to the doctor who ordered it, and ask if you could discontinue it for a few days to see if the rash clears up when the medication is stopped. Doctors will not try to diagnose a rash over the phone. They want to SEE it. Since your Mom will not go to the doctor, tell him that, and he may be willing to have you stop the medication for a week or 10 days.

The rash under her breast may be associated with heat, perspiration and being wet or damp. (Here, it has been excessively warm with record setting temperatures.) The best thing to do if it is a fungal skin infection like moniliasis, is to keep the area clean and dry. Use of an anti-fungal cream like chlortriamizole would help. This is available "over the counter" here, without a prescription. Usually, there is some mild itching with a fungal skin infection. Men frequently get this type of rash around their genitals. Here it is called "jock itch." Cheerio.

Jaycee, how long has it been since your moms Mastectomy? Was it both or just 1 breast? I can't remember at the moment.

If she is getting any follow up treatment, such as Chemo, radiation or a mixture? Perhaps it is some sort of mixture with the follow up treatment?

What ever, it hasn't been a long time since the surgery so I would take her to Dr. even though she didn't want to go.

you`ll say~~~~ what? no way will she go!! If you need a list of how to get mom's and MIL's to the Dr., even when they say no. With her age, the trauma from surgery & many other things , as Tootsie said, many things could be at play here.

You have your hands full, that I can see. you need some help for both of you. You do need to get her to the Dr. It isn't easy, just down right aggarvatiting. If I sound harsh, I don't mean to. I took care of my Mom in 1995. I am helping with my MIL now, she has Alzheimer's Disease.

I loved them both very much, but MIL got very physical, she was much better than I was. She could give a good thrashing to say the least. My mom didn't do this and I am glad for HER. MIL always thought she had done something and she woulld cry while I tried to console her.
Please take care of you while you get Mom to DR. good luck to both of you.

take care, Jo

Jaycee, your original post on May 18 says nothing about a mastectomy! If she has been treated for cancer, the rash may be a symptom of the cancer's return. Please take her to the doctor as soon as possible. Cheerio.
