Hello, everyone! I'm new to this group and glad I found you all. I was diagnosed with ocular MG just a little over a week ago. I was experiencing the sudden onset of diplopia and it got very bad very rapidly so I ended up seeing a neuro-ophthalmologist. She gave me a temporary prism for the left lens on my glasses, and it's been helping tremendously. I go back to see her next week, Nov 9, and we'll see how my eyes are doing then.

She told me that she wants me to see a neurologist who specializes in MG, so I have an appointment with him on Nov 16. I gather he'll want to do some tests, etc. to see if I have generalized MG. I already received from his office some papers to fill out, including one that asks various questions about pain and weakness here and there throughout my body. I don't think that I really have any of the symptoms of MG...

...but I've had fibromyalgia for many, many years and thus have incredible fatigue and widespread pain along with other symptoms. I don't know how I worked as long as I did in my last job. I thank God every day that I'm retired. I have lots of other health problems, too, such as horrible (and frequent) migraines, narcolepsy, Meniere's disease, restless leg syndrome and periodic limb movement.

Well, I don't have any particular questions right now, I just want to say hello. I look forward to being a part of this group. Thanks for listening! ;)

Peace and healing to all,

hcikfs

Welcome, hcikfs! (Gotta confess I copied and pasted your user name!! :D ) Glad you found the group. I'm really glad your neuro-ophthalmologist is sending you to an MG specialist. So many neuros have never treated a MGer, and know only what they were taught in school, which may be way outdated. Don't worry about not fitting the mold for MG, so many of us don't. Keep us posted on what the neuro says.
Hugs,
:)

Welcome hcikfs,
What kind of medicines do you take for your other problems? How were you diagnosed for fibromyalgia?
I know I'm really nosey, but I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia 9 years ago. I refused to take the medicines they kept prescribing me because they didn't help, now I am sure that I have had myasthenia all along.
Good luck with your appointment! Maybe when your myasthenia gets under control, some of your other problems will get better also. What is Meniere's disease?
Talk to you soon!
Kathy

Welcome....I've had Ocular MG for 17 years and it's never progressed beyond the eyes. Hopefully yours won't either. Good luck at the doc's.:)

Welcome! I have fibromyalgia too along with generalized MG plus potassium problems so I understand your mixed bag! Alot of us here have more than one disease process going on...seems to be fairly normal that if you have one auto-immune disease you get another.
I hope you get good info from your dr., and I look forward to getting to "know" you!

hcikfs,

I understand how difficult a time it is when you're facing the unknowing abyss of diagnosis. I've had MG for the majority of my life, first ocular and then generalized later on. And I also have the "mixed bag" of problems -- chronic depression, ulcers, migraines (never knew how bad a headache could be until I started getting those), yeast overgrowth, and I know I'm missing some things but you get the picture.

However, I take a slightly different stand than most people. The one thing that has helped me the most has been looking at my diet. Going gluten free was the greatest decision of my life. And now a lot of research is coming out linking food allergies and/or candida to autoimmune disorders.

The best of luck during the healing process.
