It has been two years since my surgery and I still feel the shunt. It is anoying and sometimes itches. I am constantly aware of the device. Will that feeling ever go away?

Help me understand...You feel it inside your head, or just when you touch it? Itching and pain are very common, especially in the months following installation, and they can be occasional for years afterward. My current shunt is 26 yo, and I still get an occasional itch or pain from it. I have essentially always had a shunt (I was a month old when I got my first one), but I think that, in some sense, it's like wearing a ring. You notice the sensation at first because you aren't used it, but over time, it becomes more subtle until you almost forget about it.
If you're having serious discomfort, especially with accompanying fever, fatigue, confusion, or tenderness of the site, tell your nsg right away. These are signs of infection, which are uncommon after 2 years but not unheard of.
