mimzee,
My neuro gave me a letter for all immeadate family members to get a cat scan. He said everyone from age 10 - 100. Talk to your neuro to see if he can get you some type of letter. He should be familiar with this.

Hi Mimzee,
Thanks for the private message you sent me... I appreciate it! Here's what I've been told about immediate family screening. My neurosurgeon's office told me...children of parents with aneurysm should have MI/MRA done at the age of 18-20 years old. My dad (83 years old) was diagnosed with unruptured aneurysm in Feb. this year. He is going to see my neurosurgeon soon... I think they won't do surgery on his given his age and the risks/complications of the surgery is greater than the risk of rupture for him. We were told by his doctor to get immediate family tested. My dad had a son (my brother) who died from a ruptured aneurysm in 1978. At that time we had no 'family history' of annies. I got tested in March and I have one and am having craniotomy and clipping this Friday. I am 48 years old. My other brother (he is 52) got tested about 2 weeks ago... he has one also. He is going to have a CT angiogram on this Friday at the same hospital I am having my surgery at... the same day I will be having my surgery. I think he is a candidate for the coiling procedure given the size, type and location of his. He has 3 children... 14, 12 and 11 years old... so I think they will be tested when they are 18-20 years old. I also have a nephew who is 30 years old (he is the son of my brother who died from ruptured annie). He was 11 months old when my brother died. He was reluctant to get tested, but now... thank God, he is working on getting a physical exam and a doctor to order the MRI/MRA test. I pray that he does not have one. So, my family is proof of the genetic theory that they do run in families. I hope this info helps you and your family. Keep us updated on everything. Take care/ bye for now... Linda *cg24

Hi,
I was advised by my doctors after having my ruptured annie that my siblings should be checked as soon as possible. I am here in Florida my 2 sisters are in the U.K. they both were tested and are clear. My oldest Son (26 yrs old) is arranging his testing and I am going to have my youngest son (16 yrs old ) checked out in the near future I think better to be safe than sorry!

Hi there I was told there was no need to have anyone in my family tested however another dr said my brothers my kids there kids should all be tested, however I will tell my kids when they are old enough and let them decide one is 4 the other nearly 8 months so for now they are enjoying being kids, however if you want yours testing go to the one that says they need it and get them to refer them. Jess.***
Goodluck hope they haven't got them.

There is a history of aneurysms in my family. My neurosurgeon recommended my siblings and children be tested. One sister had an aneurysm and has since had it fixed.

*bunch Hi hun, I am the first one in my family to have a Aneurysm rupture. My niece has already been tested, negative thank God! My sister and mother are supposed to, both of my half brothers should too!! Don't think I could get my Dad too & he has enough problems anyway! My nephew should also but he is a grown man and doesn't like even thinking about anything like that!! :p
*doc Everyone in your family can go through their own Family Dr. to get tested. Mine has a lot of "Vascular experiance like us, strokes, heart... He handles all my long term care also. A NS only really does surgery and then wants you to follow up with your own. My Family Practioner has help me more than the specialist did!! :) He is so nice!! If you could get a letter of recommendation from your NS stating they need to be tested also. That would be great! Help expidite the process. They just need to have a CT done and that is easy!! :) My NS told my family to when I was in the hospital!
*peace They should all get tested for peice of mind!!! It is genetic and even babies have them too. It has no age discretion, gender or ethinic group!!! :o
It is so much better to find it before it ruptures, if they did find something! I had no warning signs before mine ruptured??
Take care, keep us posted, and how are you feeling hun???
We are always here for you!! Tricia
*cg22 God bless you and your family!
Lord, may they all get tested and come back negitive!!
Lord, please be with Mimzee and help her to continue to heal. Amen

I want my kids checked also. My older son had a MRI, while he was in another state..he went through the whole test, and it came out blurry..Not one person there, realized that my son had braces..I couldn't believe it. He will be tested again, he just got his braces off. I'm hoping they will be tested sometime this year. We have a family history of annies also.

One of my uncles died of a ruptured annie and an aunt had a slow leak which put her in the hospital and affected her vision. My annie was found accidentally during an MRI. Since then my brother and a cousin had MRI's and are clear. I have since written to my only surviving aunt to tell her of the family history, she has three children and two grandchildren. I don't know what she did with the information, but now I am relieved of any responsibility for those descendants.
Better safe than sorry.

My NS told us to have everyone in my family tested. My two daughters have been tested. The NS said every 10 years for the girls starting at 20.

As far as i know noone in his family has had one my mother is still living as are all of her siblings all nine of them as well as her mother and noone knows of anyone who has had one.i guess we all have to first sometime but i appreciate the answers and help god bless you all, take care, mims
