Just wanted to share with those critter lovers that we are getting a 4 year old Fat tailed Gecko named George from Freecycle. He comes with his terrarium and all his accessories. Anyone have any experience with Geckos?

No experience, but I hear they are fantastic pets in terms of being low maintenance and interesting and fun - they don't poop much and use the same corner of the cage so cleaning is easy. Way cool pet! I don't think they're very fond of handling, but who knows, do some Gecko 'conditioning' so he'll associate you with food and he'll run to you when he sees you, or you + some signal that food is coming, like a bag of crickets. It'll probably need a uvb light, heat, and a wee shedding house (this small enclosure that holds humidity to help it shed it's skin) and some reptiles need regular misting.
HEY, though I'm certainly not fond of any death, it would be fun for you and your kids to bring home bugs for your pet to eat assuming you're in a fairly pesticide free neighborhood. Check online to see what all he eats. Vince could stay busy for an hour easy collecting large grasshoppers for protein for our rats. Also, I think you might want to use this special reptile sand, CalciSand or something. Also the Gecko might need special powder for calcium and or vitamins on his bugs. Sort of a shake and bake cricket type powder (but you don't bake of course, all his food is 'tartar').
Fun fun fun. Do you have a name picked out? Do you know the gender, I think Gecko's are relatively easy to sex once you get the hang of it, look online. Probably the shape of the belly and groin area is different, the base of the tail area I mean. Snakes are harder, you have to insert something, very invasive to the snake I bet. I've never done it.
Ok, I'm babbling, enjoy your fat tailed gecko - take pics and post too!
Fun!

I think its a boy as the person I'm getting it from said his name is George. He does use that Calci Sand you mentioned. Shes giving me that along with the Calcium powder to dip his crickets in. Basically shes giving me everything but the crickets. So we will be set.
My little boy is so excited but my H isn't hes scared of lizards and snakes :)

That is so cool. Do you have any pics of him yet? When I see "Gecko" I think of Geiko insurance. lol Out here where I live we see bluebelly lizards all the time. John found an alligator lizard and tried keeping it but it was to mean and Noah and a neighbor friend of Nathan's let it go. They said it bit to much.
Boys will bring ANYTHING home.:eek: lol Good thing I had my brother to train me before I had these boys. Not much that scares me. lol ;)
I hope you have lots of fun with "George".
