Has anyone experienced difficulty in an airplane since having a SAH? I would love to visit my grandchildren but altitude and barometric pressure put a lot of pressure on my brain and it scares me a little to make the trip. The neuro doesn't seem to have a problem with it but then he told me to go back to work 6 weeks after the SAH... Since your ears "pop" when you go up and down I imagine it would put some kind of pressure in there. Any advice or experience:confused: Lots of love to all of you.

*butterfly It is nice to meet you, I am Tricia. I have the same fear!!!
A lot of people have had to travel to have their surgeries, and flew home right after. I know a lot of poeple on here have flown many times.
I am just scared!! :o I have the same problems, I have had severe headaches and light sensitivity... since my rupture. I live in Missouri and allergies, storms and severe temp. changes mess with my head bad!! My left eye gets all swollen & my head feels the pressure!! I really want to go visit my best friend in Idaho. She lives on top of a mountain and her house is all windows!!! I have blankets over all of mine. I sleep mostly during the day and do things at night???
I am just do not like to fly!!! Aiports are a just nuts!! Planes are so crowded you can't move, the seats hurt my back, and I am not real fond of being all the way up there!! I hated it before I had an aneurysm!!! :p
I am sure you will hear from a lot of members who have flown. ;)
I am going to try this summer though!! It has been 3 years and I want to live my life again!! Even if I do sleep half the time I am there!!! :p She just came to see me and I slept a lot!!! Hubby took her out for breakfast or lunch and take her to see how much it has grown. She use to live here, they went shopping, they spoiled me for my birthday. :) Then when I got up we had a nice dinner and spent time together. It was so good to see her again!!! She has been here a few times since my rupture but, I don't remember much. I slept most of the time! :p
I think I just have to go for it!!! :D God kept me here for a reason and I want to enjoy it!! ;)

Hi Ellen,
I too have the same fear. I'm flying by myself to go to my dad's annie surgery on Wed. After flying home Sunday, I fly out again for a family vacation on the 9th. I'm a little worried.

Ellen,
My dad had a ruptured annie in November 2006 (so about a year and a half ago) and he just flew to Switzerland a few weeks ago. He had no problems during the flight (except getting his c-pap machine through customs...he has sleep apnea). He did not have any trouble with his ears and was just extremely exhaused upon arrival. I hope that helps!!

Ellen,
Yes, do it!!:) I flew after SAH and 3 craniotomies. To Key West from Michigan to get married, then to Alaska from Michigan to visit a new grandson. No problems. Have fun and live your life as fully as you can.

Hi all,
The airplane cabin pressure only reaches about 5,000 feet, so those of you who live or travel to that altitude, wouldn't notice a difference. The only potential problem would be a rapid decompression. I am a retired flight attendant and flew for 35 years and never had a rapid decompression.
Most ear and head difficulties are due to sinus problems.

Ellen,
Thank you for posting this question!!! Like I said, I was a little worried, but am feeling so much better too. I leave on a flight tomorrow:) I was a bit scared because my dad came to my surgery in Dec. We knew at that time that he had an annie. On the flight home, he had a small stroke. The Dr.s said it was probably due to stress and not the flight. Sounds like they were right. Thanks again.
