I tried to call the customer service but no one answered.
So I decided to buy a pair for Jake. here is my question, the shoes he wears now is a size 9 (in children), but when I measured his brace according to the hatchback webside, he needs like a size 7, at most 8. So I know the whole point of the expensive shoe is that he can wear it closer to his actual size. but I don't want to waste money and buy a pair what if it comes too small over the brace?
what do u think? Bec? Eva's mom, or langan's mom, or those who have bought the shoes?
thanks

Hi!
I love Caitlin's hatchbacks...and she does too! We have the "girly" ones, the black shiny Ava. The go really nice over her AFO's, no troubles at all (especially when I am rushed in the mornings!!!). I will definitely stick with this brand when we need new ones. I can't remember exactly (I bought hers last year for xmas) but I think she was right on the high side of 7's and I ordered size 8 and did not regret it. They have worn very well, still look practically new and I will be putting them on Ebay for sure when we are done with them. But anyway, I have nothing but praise for these shoes!!!

Hi,
We bought these shoes for Kody and his mom (I am his grandma) bought the size that he wore at the time and they fit perfect. His feet don't grow very fast at all so you may want to get one size bigger but you don't have too. Kody fits perfect in his and it was a GREAT choice! His mom loves them!

Spencer would wear 2 sizes up for "standard" shoes. That would be an 11.
He wears size 9 in Hatchbacks.
The deal with a standard shoe with a brace is that both are rigid and unflexable. Therefore, you need a larger sized shoe in order to get the brace into the shoe. If I put Spencer's naked foot into a size 11 shoe, he would swim in it.
Hatchbacks are wider, taller, and have flexible sides that accomodate a brace. If I put Spencer's foot w/ brace into a standard size 11 shoe. He has piles of room in the toe. Way more than he needs. It makes it almost a clown shoe. I think the added length of a larger shoe is part of the dragging issue.
When you look at the picture of the hatchback, look at the side. There is a velcro strap that allows you to bend the shoe to almost 90 degrees. This is why the brace slides in so easily. The hatchback is flexible.
What time did you call them? Was it during the lunch hour or after 5 pm? Try again. The shoes are well worth it. :)

Hey Jenna,
I did find out from my PT that Medicaid did cover the cost of the Hatchbacks. Just wanted to make sure I did tell you.

Hi Jenna. Keep in mind they are out in Washington so they are three hours behind. It took a long time to get through. I spoke with them and they were and are very helpful.
They also said they have a very good return policy.
And lastly, you very well may be able to get ins to cover. Mine would cover if I ordered them through our orthotist... which next time I will.
but even if you end up paying cash ... they are soooo worth it! I actually think the cost, are very reasonable when you factor in quality and that they would last significantly longer than the shoes I would have gotten at walmart or payless.
I have paid a ton of money on shoes this year for Ava, and the hatchbacks were the best investment. As I said before ... I wish I bought them last spring when other moms here forst suggested them.
They actually sell non AFO shoes to I am thinking about checking out.

I am looking forward to trying it with Jake. I think all of u guys should get a commission from hatchback Co.. :p

hi, Jen:
No, I haven't gotten them.
I didn't pay extra for faster delivery so maybe it is taking a few more days. I will let you know once I get them.

I bet the sizing is like vanity sizes and actually bigger than the standard number. I can barely get size 8 1/2 shoes on over Aidan's AFOs and Aidan's feet are small. I might get the hatchbacks soon. They would obviously, be much easier to put on!
Let us know how you like them for Jake, OK?

ok, we got the hatachback shoes today. :)
I got size 8 in hatachback, they are actually identical in size with the size 9 regular shoes he is currently wearing over his AFOs. So they are not any smaller which I was hoping that they would be.
Maybe because his regulars shoes are so worn and streched out, and I am so used to seeing them, I almost feel like they are more comfortable for him than the brand new hatchback. u know what I mean?
But the hatchbacks are definitely easier to put on because the straps on sides allow you to open the shoes up really wide, and the quality of the materials are much better than the ones I usually buy for him. I think I am going to need a few days to get use to them.
