I am only a week post op and pain seems to be low with the exception of the ear. I was wondering if this is associated with the operation or is this part of the tn that couln't be fixed. I did have deep ear pain prior to the surgery.
Any expreiences are welcome, and I know it is early but I am truly fixated into the new and different pains and aches.

FRAALAN, ear pain has always been a part of my tn, before the big hits, during and still. So on the one hand I would say that it's possible you just are experiencing tn related pain. On the other hand, after the whooping cough - for months and months after - my ears hurt and behaved badly all ways. Doctor said fluid in the ear. Why fluid? Why is the sky blue? How to fix it? We've tried antihistamines, I think they may have helped but since they make me groggy it wasn't worth continuing. Drain tubes in the ears? That's for the ENT that I'm seeing this month to decide I guess. But it is complicated because how much can I separate the pain from the tn pain? Not easy, of course my eardrums are bulging but ears hurt longtime so what. Try some of the simple ways to dry up fluid in case that's potentially what your problem is. It would be nice to have that off the list anyhow. Good luck, Nancy
I suffer from chronic rhinitis and sinusitis. I've been told by allergists and my ENT that over the counter nasal sprays can help drain fluid in the ear, but you can't use them for more than 3 days. Have you tried this or asked about using them if it is in fact fluid build up? I am just now attuning myself to my ear pain and whether or not it corresponds to TN attacks. I never gave it any thought before because of the above mentioned conditions and the fact that I've had a ruptured ear drum.
I'm with Nancy on this one!
Take care, Ellena

Pretty sure your ear issue is directly related to your MVD. It could take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks to clear up. That information is directly from the book Striking Back. I also remember my surgeon telling me that it was a side effect of the surgery. Fortunately I did not have that complication. Mine was numbness. I guess everyone has something, this is your little thing to deal with.
I also agree that you are in a hightened state with every little pang you feel in your face. You are so in tuned to the outcome of your surgery, you feel every little thing, when normally you wouldnt give it a passing thought.

Ella is right. The water feeling is probably directly related to the MVD and will pass. I had it with my MVD in July, and it took about 3 weeks for it to go away. I also felt every little pain and really thought at one point that the MVD didn't work. But it did!!! Hang in there and really be good to yourself.

I think I worded a little wrong.
The water is definately from MVD no question.
But the deep ear pain is that from the water or tn.
FYI
Just got out of overnight at hostpital from blood clot. Fom what my wife and doctor say they had a hard time getting this large mammal off the er board. So they pinched my upper arm and whala blood clot. oh well, ill take it over the dental pain any day. Good news is carbazamine isnt tripping me out anymore, either that or everyone else is acting weird.
everyone please have a pain free weekend!

Hi Fralaan, This past year I have found out that tn can work on the ear; oh no! For my story, read mh earlier posts. There's a really god chance its th e\water in your ear. One thing that can work like a miracle for that is a heating pad. Lie down with the ear down on top of a heating pad or hot compress. A lot of the time, this will just magically cause the water to drain right out! I just said a little prayer for you and am sending yo good thoughts for a quick recovery and an end to pain.
