Temporary chat rooms (are back up)

Hi all :)

For those that were using the temporary chat rooms I had set up on my site, they are now back up. Sorry for them going off line. My host did some tweaking and disabled something he shouldn't have :D

You will have to register to use the chats. They are not part of BrainTalk.

This is the latest version of FlashChat and is stable. There were a couple folks that had problems but I think I have fixed most of those :)

Same rules apply there and the same chat mods and admins are there too.

Same consequences for not playing by the rules apply there, and will be enforced here and vice versa.

Hi everybody :)

I have installed the latest version of Flashchat 5.0.7 and am currently testing it for stability :)

Once I think it's ready to go live the old chats will be turned off and you will have to add the new url to your bookmarks.

I will also be placing a redirect on the old url to bring everyone to the new one :)

I changed urls to keep the upgrade seamless or as much as possible :)

You DO NOT have to re-register. BUT if you encounter any problems once the new version goes live, please let me know. Post here, send pm, send email, just let me know so I can fix it :)

You don't have to re-register. Just make sure to update your favorites (IE) and/or bookmarks (Firefox) ;)

I do have a redirect in place so you can keep using the old bookmarks or favorites, but I recommend updating them in case the redirect breaks.

Log into the chats, click options, click sounds.

You can adjust the volume level (you can check how loud it will sound by clicking on the speaker) if it's too low.

Hi all, I popped into the temp chats yesterday, chatted with both jo and Lavandula, it was nice... so I emailed some of my former chatter friends, from way back, gave them the link and asked if they would register and pop in as well. Maybe just maybe we can get them active again.

I have been around since way back when things were MGH... and have a lot of fond memories over the years. Chitchat and the the advanced chats were always a place where one could pop in and find someone to share a few min with, get some comic relief, when needed and share both happiness and tears. It would be nice to have that same sort of situation on the go again.

There is always someone in need out there who would benefit from having somewhere to pop into just when they need a hello from a freind. So lets hope we can recreate what once was.

PS. Wishing everyone a happy, safe and joy- filled holiday season, however you celebrate it.

volume is high... door slams !! when people leave the room... this one seems to be set by default ?

also, it is sometimes slow to show reply... so people think you don't greet them... and they leave after 1 minute...

Ok I turned down the sound volume and made sure all of the others were enabled. I don't know why you're not hearing someone when they enter :(

As for the delay, it was most likely a temporary thing as everything checks fine behind the scenes.

i just heard you leave the chat room (heard the door slam quite loud, as my speakers are set loud)

however, i can confirm to you that there is NO doorbell when someone steps in !! this is unfortunate, because everyone that comes to the chat room told me that they are working in another window, like i do too, while waiting for someone to step in... and only the doorbell can tell... :(

i'm still online for awhile... if you want to do some testing... my PMs are also activated now for admin and buddies...

Just to the right of "other users enters room" is a "mute" box. Make sure it's not checked.

Are you using Internet Explorer? If so what version? I did the testing using Firefox so it may be a browser issue that I need to address.

Ok it's definately an IE problem. I can't hear the "Jetsons" when I am in the chat room and someone else joins.

Why it's not working I do not know yet. I will look at the coding for the sounds sometime soon to see if I can fix it.

Ok I found an answer to this bug. IE users should log into the chat rooms, click on options, click on sounds, and click on the "MUTE ALL" box. Yes clicking the mute all box allows the sounds to play normally. Why? I don't know. I can't find anywhere in the code that would cause that phenomenon.

On a related note, sometime this week I'm hoping to update the chats to 5.10 (currently 5.08) and the problem with IE and the sounds has not been fixed in 5.10. I didn't goto 5.09 because I was hoping they would fix the IE sound bug in 5.10.

i just checked the link given on post #48 by mod #3... i even re-registered (like a new member has to do, by clicking on the blue underlined register link you'll find on that page) to access the temp chatroom, and it's working fine for me

i tried it using both internet browsers that i have, Firefox, and Internet Explorer :)

i'd suggest you try it again :)
