I'm looking for anyone's experiences with Wellbutrin. Perhaps Mrs. Doubtfire has some perspective??
My son has been taking concerta on and off for 7 years. It is effective but at the high dose that he really needs to be effective, he is very flat, perhaps even depressed. So we have been living with a compromise dose which is high enough to stop him from doing incredibly dangerous impulsive things (like pulling his bike out in front of a car) but not to really control the inattention, incessant talking or other symptoms. Each spring it gets worse, and he's really having issues controlling himself at school. And, as is typical when his symptoms are really poorly controlled, he has no tolerance for frustration or willingness to do homework, chores or anything else productive at home.
We tried tenex, no help. We tried Straterra and had a very bad reaction - he acted bipolar for 4 days. That dx has been completely ruled out, but of course the incident is foremost in my son's mind as well as ours.
So, the doctor said that it is still possible for my son to have a similar reaction to Wellbutrin, but there is no correlation between his past reaction to Straterra and what his reaction will be to Wellbutrin.
Any thoughts?????
Thank you all!
