View Full Version : Source Naturals B12
Has anyone used Source Naturals 1000mcg Methylcobalamin ? If so is it any good?
Using Jarrow 1000mcg just now as I have seen good reviews on this brand. Have the source naturals also but the Jarrow tablets are about three times the size but supposed to be the same dose ?
Thanks
Alex

Hi Alex & welcome! Do you happen to know what the quidelines are in Scotland for B12? My test was flagged as high @900 & I ignored that after getting educated (here on BT). My experience with doctors-they much prefer prescribing drugs to discussing vitamins! Not entirely their fault, they just haven't been educated about nutrition.
I've been taking Source Naturals for a couple of years. It's cheap & is 1MG. I put it under my tongue first thing in the morning & let it disolve, then eat breakfast & take my folic acid,B1,etc.
Would you care to share what other symptoms your wife has? I understand extreme fatique & the depression that seems to go hand-in-hand. How can you feel good mentally if you cannot get out of bed??
Does she have any tremors? Headaches? Mood swings? Loss of hair? Change in weight? I only ask so we might be able to suggest even more vits....
As you are probably aware-for some people it can take much longer than a few weeks to see any improvement. When our bodies are deprived of something essential it takes awhile to adjust. She also might be feeling "warm flushes or head pains". If her urine isn't really yellow then I would say her body is USING the B12,folic acid.
When I was a vegetarian I consumed brewer's yeast, wheat germ & blackstrap mollasses(sp),these are the main sources for B1 (which I encourage you to research also). Many veggans rely on grains for their nutrition, these days we need to really read labels to determine if there's actually any GOOD stuff in our food-especially anything packaged!
Also, even though you have some of the best salmon in the world there,I hope she's not consuming alot of fish!
Good luck! Buttons
It's a different B vitamin that turns the urine yellow. Not B12 or folic acid.
I also would definitely cover other nutrients just in case, even though low B12 alone can cause all of those things and much more.
Best wishes,

is a good brand. So if you like it and find it convenient, I don't see why
not to use it.
Most of the B12 in a sublingual form is absorbed from the saliva you swallow
anyway. Just take it on a empty stomach for best results.
Many of us use Jarrow, because a while back that was the most commonly
available and affordable.

I just added B6 back into my daily regime & noticed urine is yellow-does this mean I don't need it? The pill itself is dark yellow.
Appreciate your input!

I don't believe that is what it means. But hoping she'll be back soon. :)

come out in the urine. B2 and B6 typically leave colors. B6 tends to be more
greenish, and B2 more orange. If you don't drink enough water daily, the color
will appear more concentrated. B1 may leave a yeasty smell as well.
Some B6 is retained in the body in the liver and muscles for a few days.
Excess is excreted within hours. Because of that, it might be a good idea to
take multiple doses, if your supplement is not enteric coated--you can cut it in half for example. Some super B formulas are timed release, and that may help too. (not as long timed release
as some drugs), but at least a bit longer for slower absorption, and hence
less rapid excretion.

I like it (Natural Factors Brand) It's cheap and it works for me. Make sure you get the right one. I get it from iherb (for now) Who knows how much longer they will be a good choice as they have been purchased and keep playing around with their pricing model. I do like the prices and quick shipping, I do not like the fact that they don't have a telephone number to call with quesitons.
If you are lactose intolerant it is not going to be something you should use.
B2 will turn your urine a nice orangy-yellow color if you get a lot of it. Drink plenty of water and don't worry about the color. If you need it you need it, but it's important to note that you need to have an accurate diagnosis. Some B Vitamins can actually make you feel pretty lousy if you get too many.
I research a lot of things at the Linus Pauling Institute at Oregon State University. http://lpi.oregonstate.edu/infocenter/vitamins/vitaminB12/ and a few other places.
