Hello,

Some time ago I was prescribed a statin drug for cholesterol. After a while my whole body began to shake and if I had to use the stairs I could only take one stair at a time. I also had major pain throughout my body.

My Doctor did some blood work and my CK (Creatinine Kinase) was over 800.
He had me stop the statin immediately and with some time my CK returned to normal.

I have long term chronic pain though part of it is my back and I have had an MRI and do have back problems.

My questions are:

1. was this true rhabdomyolysis?
2. will this cause me long term pain throughout my body. my body is racked with pain, still, 3 or more years later.

I do take pain meds and muscle relaxers for my back.

Thank you, Phil

Here is an article explaining it.

When severe, there is darkening of the urine. Once this occurs, some kidney damage is probably likely.

It is known now that statins damage the mitochondria of cells. This is where the problems are.

It is hard to say if you have long term mito problems. Some people do, and you could discuss this with Kira at Chronic Pain forum. Mito problems are inherited, but can be induced with drugs.

The CPK test remains a barometer for detecting rhabdo... you could request it periodically to see if you have lingering problems from your other drugs.
Here is a list of drugs that may be causative:
