Hi, I am new to the boards here, I am reading lots and learning much.
I had my first Dr. appt today for symptoms similar to Fibro. The doc even mentioned Fibro and we will begin testing next week. I am trying to stay positive and be happy and keep moving.
Thanks for letting me share, I feel like I am in shock, sorta. It is a bit overwhelming. But this is my first step in getting better.
In case you are wondering-this is what brought me to the Doc and BT:
1. Severe Fatigue
2. Extreme Muscle weakness, spasms, pain
3. Brain fog, can't talk in sentences, remember, recall, etc.
4. Dizziness
The list goes on and on.....
I have already been Dx with TMJ, IBS, Ezcema, Rosecea

Hello and welcome, I feel much the same as you! I was not too sure the doctor had diagnosed me correctly (about 5 weeks ago), so I went to the library and checked out some fibro books. Those books helped affirm for me that the doc did know what he was talking about, as I read and kept thinking, "Yes, that makes sense, yes, got that too, etc." So talking with others and reading books is a good first step.

Welcome Nanna B
just try to take it a day at a time. Fibro is a frustrating illness, but life (and happiness :) ) are still possible

Hi NannaB and welcome to the fibromyalgia forum here at braintalk. We have all been diagnosed with this condition (I refuse to call it a disease!) and have managed to keep our sense of humor, (usually) , and live with the problems it has given us (not always willingly!)
All of your other diagnoses have an element of stress associated with them. Are you living with a great deal of stress in your life right now? That seems to be true for those of us with fibromyalgia also. Let us know how we can help. Cheerio.

First of all thank you for the kind welcomes everyone.
To answer your question about stress I don't think I have a great deal of stress, but then I think I could be deceiving myself too.
I try to take everything in stride, and try not to complain.
I have a tendency to keep all my emotions inside, no matter what, good or bad. This could be part of my problem. All that junk has turned into poision.
When I do share my symptoms with my friends and family, they tell me "oh, it is just stress"
I just want to get better.
Thanks for listening.

Is dizzyness a symptom of fibro?
I fall a lot, and someone asked me today if it's caused by dizziness. I do have it, but didn't know what to blame it on. I think it might be all the meds, or my inner ear thing.

Hi, Artist.
I have orthostatic hypotension, which goes along with Fibro, I'm told. My blood pressure drops very low when I get up from a sitting or lying down position or move too quickly. You may want to start with getting that checked. I would definitely see my doc asap, though.
Hope you feel better soon,
Kathy

Hi, Nanna. The books that have helped me learn sooo much about both Fibro and Chronic Myofascial Pain are written by Devin Starlanyl (a physician with both diagnoses) and Mary Ellen Copeland - Fibromyalgia & Chronic Myofascial Pain A Survival Manual and The Fibromyalgia Advocate written only by Devin J. Starlanyl, M.D.
Sorry you have to be here, but just wanted to welcome you.
Hugs,
Kathy

Kathy,
Thank you, I did not know this had a name orthostatic hypotension. I have low BP to begin with top no. in the 90's, bottoms 60-70 range. I know when nurses aren't really taking my blood pressure, I get a 120/70. Sheesh.
I remember reading low blood pressure can be as serious as high blood pressure.
Artist,
I fall down alot, too. I think I'm the only 40yr old woman with skinned knees. It is pretty embarrasing, we were at a party on Friday, down I go. I am seeing way too much of the ground up close. Seriously, though, the stairs SCARE me. And taking showers, I have fallen in the shower.
Also, just standing, I can trip and lose my balance. Wacky.
You know I have suffered in silence for so long, it feels refreshing to talk to people who know exactly what I am talking about and feeling. It is just amazing. I thought it was all in my head and I was all alone. I am looking forward to getting those books and learning more. I don't know much about Fibro, honestly, I was under the impression it was more of a joint ailment.
Thanks for the support and information

That's funny! Until I read a book about fibro (after dx), I thought there must be something else wrong with me, perhaps in addition to fibro, because I'd heard it was a muscle problem, not a joint one. It was my joints that were giving me the most pain. ;)

Yes, dizziness and poor balance are definitely possible symptoms
I have fallen, MANY times, breaking my right ankle once, spraining it twice and breaking my right foot once
also have fallen on my face and gotten scratched up, fell on Main street wearing a skirt (with only panties and a slip underneath) with my legs going up in the air:eek:, fallen and gotten bloody and swollen knees many times, fallen against a metal trash can at work and got 3 broken ribs, usually have at least one bad bruise somewhere, frequently run into walls, doors, furniture.
you might start to try doing some balance exercises - I've done that along with strength training and it has actually helped- nothing broken or sprained for 3 years now:rolleyes:
