I have wandered over here from some of the children's boards. I see you're not very active but am hoping some of you are out there reading this. My problem is that my 3 yr old has inverted circadian rythyms. Also called inverted melatonin I think. In other words, her bedtime is between 2am and 4am. On a good night she drifts off at 1. Some nights it's been 6. Then she sleeps till 11a or later. Waking her and keeping her awake during the day doesn't work. She just readjusts herself. I have tried melatonin and she falls asleep for all of 2 hours then is back up. Her problem is probably part of a genetic syndrome she is being tested for but I'll consider any advice I can get. Karen

Ahh now I think I understand your question about Smith Magenis, which has that as a component. I have heard of, but never seen extended release melatonin. Parents of children with Angelman syndrome use it as their children often have a hard time sleeping.

I don't have any advice but I wanted to send you some sympathy...coping with those hours must take a lot out of you. My daughter has neurofibromatosis which has some minor sleep issues attached, but they have really been VERY minor with my daughter, who is 16 now. I hope you are able to find some answers. Let us know what you learn.
