Hi, I'm looking for a pal or some pals to help me with my weight loss program. Sort of like a buddy system. I really need to loose a major amount of weight, not only for my health but for my personal well being. I have struggled with this issue for a long time, but lately it seems to be a battle I can't even get started on... I take meds for depression, Paxil, which I am sure contributes to part of the problem, but I have trouble staying on a good eating plan, and use food a lot for comfort reasons. I've been around these chat rooms and forums since the fall of 1998, was known back then as KC, and since the change overs was also known as KimC, and now it's kcfrnf, which means KC from NF, as my daughter has the neuro condition known as Neurofibromatosis. That was how I originally found this site when it was part of the MHG neurology rooms. She is doing fine and is going to Community College, it is Mom (me) that needs your support now... Anyone who would like to correspond and be a buddy in this weight loss war, I would love to connect and perhaps working together would be a whole lot easier than going it alone..
I'll check in regularly and hope to hear from anyone who would also like to have some buddy help...
hugs
Kim

Hey, Kim. :)
I'm so glad to hear your daughter is doing well! I know NF can be a scary thing. Her doing so much better gives you the chance to concentrate on your own needs, which, as moms, we need more than anything. I know. My 12 yo son has autism and Chiari Malformation, and I have hydrocephalus and epilepsy, so I'm never bored!
Have you considered Weight Watchers? I don't work for it (yet! ;) ), but it has changed my life. I joined in August of last year and have lost nearly 90 lbs! :D There's more to go, but I have all the tools I need. :) It's one of the easiest and most sensible programs out there because you can actually eat real food :), it's easy to keep track of what and how much you eat, and it's what the rest of the world does without being as conscious of it. :) Check out www.weightwatchers.com for all the details.
If you are an emotional eater, you might also benefit from Overeaters Anonymous. I am not a member, but I know of many who are, and they have said it helps them immensely. In any case, this can be done. :) If you'd like, I'll be happy to be in touch. :)
Hang in...

thanks Liz, nice to meet you... Wow 90 lbs, that is terrific. There is WW here in the community, went a long time ago, but not much success, but perhaps the program is different now.. I must check it out. I live in a small community in rural Nova Scotia, so some options are not always available. I do know about food rules and what constitutes a good diet, it is just to get on track and follow it, as well as get the right amount of exercise and fresh air. But I certainly would love to stay in touch, in hopes that it would be more encouraging then just trying to go it alone... I bought a pool pass so my daughter and I are going to go swimming today later and see if we can get that into our routine as well...
thanks for replying to my post

If you haven't been in awhile (a few years), it might be time to look at it again. I was completely disenchanted with trying to do it again after several attempts in high school and college (over 16 years ago! ), but when I saw my mom last year, I had told her what my ideal program would be like. She asked me to go with her to a WW meeting, and...all I can say is WOW. It had changed so much. I was blown away at how much easier it was to keep track, and the most amazing thing was how many delicious substitutes there are for the things I used to eat. They even taste just as good! (Also, if I really want to, I can still eat some of the things I used to, now that I know what an appropriate portion is and how to keep track.) I can seriously do this forever. :)
Check it out. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. :)

Morning Liz, I think I will try and find a WW meeting. Though my work schedule may interfer with me going all the time. I'd love to just be able to handle this myself, but sometimes that is not the answer. I did the weigh and measure thing yesterday, and I have the dreaded amounts. Now it is to get started on really eating properly and I don't think I over eat that much, but the exercise this really need help too.... over the weekend going to really try and get on track and make a proper plan to follow... but thanks for the info Liz and the support...
Hope you have a great day... and a good weekend... I will post when I get a chance...
and would love to hear from others battling this same issue.
Love Kim

So...not the best weigh-in today...on my b-day, too! :( I didn't gain a lot--just a pound--but I'm still annoyed. My hunger was on high power. Grr...:o As long as I behave this week, I'll probably lose it again. Hopin'...

:) Happy Birthday Liz, hope you had a great day, and one pound is not much to be worried about, but I know you will take it off next week again and more.... but do take time to celebrate at least.
My daughter and I got swimming yesterday, and plan on going again today, a little later....
We are in decluttering mode at home and so we are all going to tackle a couple of rooms first.

:) managed to get a fair amount done this afternoon, didn't even stop for lunch... so rather hungry right now. Will probably have a snack, and think MB (my daughter) and I will go for a swim before supper....we are both trying to swim everyday. Hope everyone is having a great weekend... Decluttering for me is as good as loosing weight, and once it is all done then hopefully the weight can start to disappear as well....
talk later
hugs, Kim

I am going to start pool walking with a friend. She has lost a good deal of weight by doing that. I am only allowed 10 minutes, though, but maybe my pt will bump it up when she sees how I do. I'd love to have buddies to help each other lose this weight. Good luck to all,
Kathy
