For the past 8 years, my pain management has come from my primary care DR. He is not only my DR., but has become somewhat of a Rock in my life and a very good friend. My main concern and problem is, he has limited me to only one pain med over the years, and about a half year ago decided to up the strength of that med to the stronger dose. Lortab 5/500 to 7.5/500.

Sometimes this is enough for me to get by some, but for the past couple months, my pain has gotten much worse and the meds I'm taking now just don't cut it. I've been thinking about seeing a DR. who deals mostly with pain managment.

I"m in Connecticut, Hartford County, so if anyone else could give me some suggestions on how going about findind a good DR for pain managment, I'm all ears..

Thanks,

Ned

PS; I'de like to thank everyone for the warm welcome in my first post. It does help some realizing I'm not alone in this world, when it comes to dealing with life changing daily pain.

Ned,

My best experiences have been with a Physiatrist ( Physical Rehab and Pain management) I have not been fond of anesthesiologists as they are just shot jockeys. I have been seen by pretty much every specialty there is for Chronic back pain. All referred by my PM (physiatrist). He has a great deal of knowledge of how the body is supposed to work and what to do if it is having pain.
You should be able to find one in the phone book or ask you GP for a referral. A lot of hospitals have them as do some spine centers. They can also be found on the web.

Mine is in private practice, and has also been my rock, I have been seeing him for about 10 years.

I am not familiar with your part of the country, but check out the suggestions above.

Take care and keep us posted,
Kathy

Ned,

I checked online and assumed you were near Hartford, I found several PM, although they didn't identify their specialties. Just wanted to let you know.

Ned,
I'm probably about 3 hours away but my doc is excellent with pain management. He isn't afraid of the DEA. He's been a little harassed by them in the past but they didn't have anything on him so they gave up. My doc doesn't hesitate to prescribe whatever is necessary to make sure you are adequately medicated.
