I am at the end of my rope. I am repeating a living hell,I went through before.
Primary doc left area. No pain meds left. Went to new doc.Doc said I will not give you same meds.(vicodin). You should never take it again ever. My dilema. june 2007 went to doctor the one who left, was in much pain, couldnt barely walk. Tryed stronger meds, was tto much, after time was at vicodin, brought relief without nocking me out or making me sick. Last appointment with her I said Im feeling more stable, moving better at last I felt promise. Not perfect, but stable. Doc leaves practice. Tried a new doc, first thing I am not giving you vicodin. You should never take it ever again. You should go to pain managment. I told him no one will take me because I was in a car accident. He said yes no one will. So I have to take myself of vicodin with less then 1 week supply, and this is the second time in 2 years,I had to go through this. My biggest question is if it helps, why is it so bad and do they really give a sh*t if I hurt. I dont want injections, they would have to do every inch of my body. I have connective tissue pain, bone pain, muscle pain, and so on.I cant do this game anymore. Too many different views, and which one is right? How I feel doesnt matter.

So sorry to here you are having trouble with Dr's. If you tapper down it will not be to bad. I would start now. Have you tried Tramadol or Lyrica? I here they work good. I would ask the dr about them.

Sorry, I can't offer you any advice or wisdom, but I am sorry you have been left in this lurch. Is it possible to get a letter from your previous dr. explaining your history?
If you don't mind, what state do you live in. I'm guessing Florida or Kentucky region.

Sorry you find yourself in this situation again. It is a crock that a doctor would tell someone that has been taking Vicodin that they won't prescribe it shouldn't be a doctor. Telling you another pain med would be better and weaning you off vicodin as you start the new med would be moral but to cut you off without enough to triate off is immoral.
I hope you are trying to find another doctor that isn't opposed to controlling severe pain even if it requires using a narcotic. I don't understand the car accident issue for doctors as clearly you can point to an accident that caused your pain to start.

Thanks for the support. Im going to keep looking for a doc that doesnt say "when you put people on vicoden they dont want to go off it" and he was talking loud. I was so red. Dont be in pain in Ohio. They only want to stick you with needles. If a doc helps you the DEA will be on their *ss.

I also live in Ohio,,
I go to a PM Dr in Columbus and we go over my meds and the he faxes his plan to my PCP and he writes my script that way I don't have to travel so far every month to get my meds.
There are PM docs out there that will help but they are not always easy to find..
It is very hard to find a Dr that will Rx vicodin for a long length of time, especially if you take very many as they are very hard on the organs, most Dr's would rather Rx you a long acting med so you don't have to take as many and then if problems may Rx you a BT med.
If I can be of any of any help with a Dr or anything else let me know.

There are diseases that cause pain that are not treated with narcotics.

When I was first having pain after the MVA, my doc wrote for Vicodin, and a muscle relaxant. I chose to get off the Vicodin as it has a significant amount of tylenol in it. I know my doc doesn't care for it himself but does writ for it for short periods of time. Long time use leads to the need to take more, and more. The are other meds which help pain with no tylenol.
Your user name suggests you have fibro, have you tried Lyrica, I have taken it for years on it helps some with pain and helps nerve pain. Just a thought.
I am so sorry you are in such pain, but glad you are with us here.
Take care,
Kathy

I am going to beg to differ a bit.
I have been on Vicodin a long time and off and on. Never had any problems with it nor my liver. Then again, I don't take it every 4 to 6 hours either. It never made me feel sick or doped up either at the small amounts I do take. A lot of other meds did! But Steve and Kathy have a good point too. If it is connective tissue disease there are probably better meds for that.

I don't know why doctors treat Vicodin like its heroin. Its good for short time pain relief but for chronic pain long acting is better. No doctor should ever leave a patient to go thru withdrawal. Lyrica is good, I use it for nerve pain, also massage and water aerobics. I would ask Suede for her advice, sounds like she can help.

Thanks for advice. I did try morphine time release, made me sick, then fentenyl,it was a patch,it didnt stay on good and also made me sick and dizzy, then tried opana it worked but 2 hours before it wore off I would get migrain and it would take 2-3 hours to go away after taking next dose.It also was expensive for me. I also tried Lyrica, Im not sure but I think the dose was too high, because I was loopy as heck. I even took cymbalta, for 2 years and I was so passive I didnt care what was going on around me.The kids liked it cause I never made them do chores,or help out around the house. I ran out a month ago,and I feel more awake and aware. It took almost 2 years of trying different meds just to get to this point, and I finally felt like I was becoming a person again. Im willing to try what doctors think is best I dont want injections though.

Hi There - Having gone thru something simaler in regards to pain meds - I would advise you to see a good pain management doctor - the kind that takes a detailed history and is not just a needle jockey- as in try this series of shots and then we will talk about meds - funny how the meds never come, not really. anyway, some people the shots help - that is great, however, some of us do need CP meds and Vicoden is hard on the liver. IF meds are indicated, they can start you off on a low dose 15mg Morphine long acting, for example, to see if it helps. there has been way too much panic about "Drugs" in the media. We should have access, as determined by a doctor to what helps us. We are responsible to make sure they do not fall into the wrong hands - Kids, Med. Cabinet snoops , whatever. :I for one wish you the best and may you find the relief you desrve.

I agree with what everyone has said about a pain docter..A good one is a god send and will save your life. my primary was pricribing me for 2 years before I got in to a good PM..He was good, helped me alot, was and still is my primary for 20 years..So when I came to him with this god awful pain he knew something was wrong...But.....he isn't good at scribing drugs for pain like a pain docter is...he helped....but my pain docter ,,,he rreally helped..I am from Ohio also,,and today was the first time injections was ever mentioned..and I hope I do not have to go that route,,But right now I am on a steroid pack , I have bursitis to both hips,,,and I can hardly walk,,but if these steroids do not work,,I have to have injections to my hips..and by the way they are hurting , I might welcome it, if these steroids do not help,,but I am hoping...I hate shots..even though I was a nurse and gave many...My pm is in Springfield Ohio, if that is close,, PM me, and I will give you the best docter you have ever been too...Or ever meet...hugs, Cindy
