OMG! I feel like I'm being bombarded with hopeless facts this week!
But certainly this in conjunction with the others makes sense...like prematurity could be one of those insults 'required' to set up a child for developing autism. But also it should be considered that prematurity is now more than 1 out of every 8 children born in the US, and it's increasing. They are 'frantically' searching for reasons why the rates are increasing, all while the age of viability is getting earlier & earlier and no one knows the 'outcomes' of these early births yet. BUT it stands to reason that things like mito should be looked into as we see the rates of THAT increasing at the same time preemies & autism (and while we are at it, diabetes, allergies and other immune deficient ailments are too) is.
Anyhoo, in one respect I feel like with all these articles that research is FINALLY focusing on much needed issues, but it sure is depressing when results show such grim results. So all I can do is hope for the future, I guess.
