I was in the hospital for 4 days for pancreatitis and they flooded me with Cipro (an antibiotic) and Flagyll (an antifungal). After a week I noticed that what I thought was a fibro flare had gone away. I had the following symptoms: Fever, muscles feeling hot, sticky, like they had the flu and lots of pain in my arms and legs. My CP is also better, perhaps due to the inflammation being reduced by these meds?

Found out that there is a fungal thing called Candida that can get loose in your body and raise all kinds of hell. The thing is, there is no test for this type of Candida I've been told.

Now I'm wondering.... if feeling like you have the flu in your muscles could possibly be this candida NOT fibro? Or maybe sub-clinical infection?, that isn't caught because normally its not strong enough to be detected? EXCEPT during a flare? Maybe???

Is not an antifungal. It is an antibiotic that is used for predominately
anerobic bacterial infections. (in the bowel, tooth sockets, prostate, etc).

Both of these antibiotics are capable of causing peripheral neuropathies.
This is not common, but people have come on here and reported that.

Candida can become systemic if you are severely immune depressed.
The systemic effects of a heavy infection which may occur in the GI tract with Candida are due to the aldehyde byproducts that the yeast releases during its metabolism.

There are blood tests for CAndida now. Candida is treated typically with Diflucan. GI infections of Candida are sometimes also treated with Nystatin.

LilE, whatever the reason it is good to hear your pain levels are much better. Going into the hospital for four days is worth the pain reduction if it last. I hope you don't see the return of pain any time soon.

Lil,
Please ask your doctor to test for Lyme Disease and all the other illnesses you can get from a tick bite like Bartonella, Erlichia, Babesia, etc. The fact that what you thought was a FMS flare was helped by cipro and flagyl indicates there is something infectious going on. I am saying this because your bio does say you do gardening and California has a pretty high incidence of Lyme Disease and associated diseases.

Go to www.ilads.org and click on Treatment Guidelines on the left hand column and then click on the paper by Dr. Joseph Burruscano, page 9-10 list symptoms for Lyme....compare them to what you are feeling.

I hope you are feeling better today.

All my best,
Diandra

Thanks for the tips, will investigate. The pancreatitis was solved by cutting a small muscle in the duodenum which only happens to maybe 1% of people. Also dilaudid causes the muscle to spasm.
