Hi all,
My pain doc has suggested I try one Opana at night because I am currently on Norco every 4-6 hours and I often wake up in the middle of the night due to pain when it wears off. I also take Soma 1-3x a day and Lyrica 3-4x a day.
I have been happy with my current regimen and don't want to muck things up.
I was wondering if anyone could share their Opana experiences. I had said no to the Opana and he said how bad it was that I never seem to get a good night's sleep but, honestly, I just feel like that is part of having chronic pain. Are there any of you with chronic pain who get a good solid 7-8 hours a night?. I told him that and he did not agree and said I should do all I can to get a good night's sleep. We settled on my taking a double dose of Lyrica at bedtime to see if that helped and if not, he wants to put me back on a long acting opiate(I took oxycontin for years...don't want to go back on.)
Cheers....Diandra

How much total Lyrica are you taking?? That seems like alot...especially if you're going to take a double dose of it at night. Have you tried Lunesta or Trazadone for sleep? Trazadone can work well for me depending on if the stars are aligned right etc.

Yep, I remember you not wanting to take any long-acting pain meds..which quite honestly I don't understand as you're willing to take Soma and Norco. Opana is quite different than Oxy. I currently take one every 12 hours of the ER and the IR for BRT. It doesn't last 12 hours for me altho my PM is convinced that it's a "true" 12 hr. med. To answer your question, probably taking a 10mg ER a couple hours before you go to bed might well help since you're waking up due to pain. 10mg is the lowest extended dose and it's worth a try if your double-dosing on Lyrica doesn't help.

Hi Kandra,
I am not taking much Lyrica at all. Well below the prescribed dose actually. I take 25mg 3x a day and adding an extra at night would only be 100mg which is still really low.
Thanks for your advice....I appreciate it.

Kandra,
My husband is on Opana currently 20mg 2 X daily (switched from 30mg morphine 3 X day) and when he first took it made him a bit sleepy and a bit odd feeling but he soon adjusted to it. He said he is satisfied with the relief he gets compared to the morphine but I know everyone is different. He said it doesn’t always help when he is working but the days he was home with limited activities he said it worked well.
The doctor gave him ambien to help him sleep through the night because he would often wake up several times due to pain and toss and turn trying to get comfortable (he’s worse then my cat trying to get a good sleeping spot! :p) but he has to go straight to bed after he takes it. I can tell if he took it before hand and tries to stay up to watch T.V. Honestly I’m not fond of him taking it but he says it does help him sleep and I asked the pharmacists about the interactions between ambien and opana and they said it should not be a cause for concern just to keep them a few hours apart.
I hope this helps some and hopefully you can soon get a good nights rest soon.

Just bumping this up in hopes of getting more input on Opana experiences.
Perhaps it is such a new drug that few have used it? I have no idea.
Thanks, Diandra

I was on Opana ER and it worked every good for me. I had to come off because of the cost. Greg lost his job so no Ins to help pay. I hope to go back to it very soon. The only thing I had was the way you have to take it. A hour before you eat or 2 hours after you eat.
