Hi, sorry if this is the wrong forum to aks this question but I cannot seem to get an answer on this from my doctor's office.

I'm having 2 lumps surgically removed under general anesthesia on the 24th. One is rather large and was biopsied in 2002 and diagnosed as a fibroadenoma, the other was just discovered. I'm a single mom of a 12 year old and would like to know how long the recovery is from this surgery. Will I be able to care for myself and daughter afterwards? The only person I have who is available to help me out is my Mother but she is 72 and spends most of her day taking care of my Father. I have a sister who lives about 2 hours away but she is really busy and not sure she would be able to help unless it was emergency. If anyone could give me some idea of what the recovery may be like I would really appreciate it.

Thanks for letting me post here,
Amber

I would help if you told us where you live, as each state / country has different ways of being able to offer you and your child help after surgery.

Good luck in your quest for help.

Hi Amber. Did the dr. tell ya that fibroadenoma is fairly common. Sorry to hear ya have to have surgery. I know it depends on the individual but my cousin has that. It isn't cancer. She had a couple done and she only laid around one day. I guess they are small and may slightly grow over time. Ask your dr. about some assistance that he may know of. They usually can give ya numbers. Hope all goes well. Jay

Thanks Jay, I'm still not sure why the doctor feels it necessary to remove these lumps. It's all a bit confusing to me, so I'm just trusting he knows what he is doing. Hopefully I'll be able to come home and still do all the usual housekeeper stuff and care for myself and daughter.

Well I can now answer my own question. I had my breast lumpectomy 3 days ago. The surgery took a little over an hour and left a 3 inch scar. Recovery time due to pain was minimal. I would highly recommend 48 hours of rest after surgery if for no other reason then allowing your body time to heal. 72 hours after surgery I was able to return to normal household duties with a limit of no more then 20lbs being lifted.

I just thought I would write this down here in case anyone now or in the future is wondering about recovery time after lumpectomy.
