Hello to all,

I need your help. I have a history of fibromyalgia and a history of seizures. For the past week I have had a severe flare up of the fibro. However, for the last 5 days (and frequently in the past two months) my tongue has swollen and I have found it hard to speak. My words get twisted and I jumble my words. Then for the first time, this morning I was taking my vitamins and I couldn't swallow them. My throat is swollen. It doesn't hurt. I sound horse and it is hard to swallow anything, even my own saliva. I just feel funny.

Does anyone have any idea's or thoughts of what this could be. I am hoping not, but thinking this might be a small stroke. Or perhaps a seizure of some sort that I am not used to. I would appreciate any help one could give me.

I have not taken any new medicines or eaten anything different that I could have had an allergic reaction to. I am just not sure what I am looking at here.

Again I would appreciate any help.

Thank you in advance.

M

It is difficult to sort this out without a little more information. Do you have swollen glands in your neck? If you feel with the flat part of your fingers, underneath your jaw and down into your neck, are there lumps there that are tender when you touch? Are you running a fever? Have you looked at the back of your throat in a mirror?

You mention a history of seizures. Might you have had a seizure and bitten or chewed on your tongue, so it is swollen?

I would certainly see and speak with a doctor about diagnostic testing to see what the source of the swelling might be. Cheerio.

M,
There is a disease called Myasthenia Gravis that has symptoms like the ones you describe. Look it up on the internet. It can be controlled with Prednisone or other medications, if that's what it is. There are blood tests and other tests that can be done to diagnose it. If you have a hard time breathing or swallowing, it could be a medical emergency and you need to see a doctor.
I have been treated for fibromyalgia for 9 years (unsuccessfully). I am now being treated with prednisone (because Myasthenia is autoimmune) when my symptoms get bad, and it works wonders. However, my case is very complicated (I won't get into that right now). Good luck to you.
