I'm currently sitting in the orthotist's office. It's a long appointment. They are once again trying to "cure" me through the miracle of bracing:rolleyes: Which means I have a whole lot of wait time. Luckily, they have wireless and I have my laptop!

Anyway, just have to share this: the guy just walked in and told me that he thinks serial casting would be a good option for me! Um... are you nuts? With a full-time job, a house with stairs and god knows what else? I swear, for me, bracing has been one area where the treatment is worse than the disability. I am truly ready to explode. I told them that I didn't feel like our current course of action was feasible. And he says all exasperated: "I don't give up that easy!" Basically insinuating that I was giving up. Well, d***it, I think I'm entitled to "give it up" and find a better way without some clinician wasting my time and making me feel like crap.

Over and out...

Nic

Oh jeez. How about they just tie your legs together and let you hang from the ceiling? ;)

Boy, does that sound familiar. Went through serial casting at 12 in the thick of summer, and honestly don't think it was worth it, IMO. The "benefits" from the casting were minimal, and didn't last long at all. Like you, I certainly couldn't imagine doing the casting now, especially with so many responsibilities and obligations.

Forgive me, but what is serial casting? Is it similar to bracing, for the same purpose, I mean? Thanks for any info.

I did serial casting once and ended up having my foot almost totally reconstructed anyway. so you can see how much good it did me!

Hi Nicki,
I know you hate casting about as much as I do... and so much for walking, at least for a while

Kurt,

They definitely aren't casting me. No way, no how. I told him to forget it! I was amazed they someone would even suggest it at my age. Never even mind the fact that it really does no good!

I got it suggested for me, too, at 29 (I'm mid-30s now). Needless to say, I ALSO said "no way, no how".
