View Full Version : Mountain Medicine and High Altitude Physiology!
Hello all,
I'm Matiram Pun (mati) from Nepal, the Himalayan Kingdom, and currently doing my final year rotation in Institute of Medicine, Maharajgunj Campus, Kathmandu Nepal.
I have special interest in "Mountain Medicine and High Altitude Physiology". I hope to be involved in the interaction and get to know many aspects of the topic and share my exposure with others.
Thanks!
Best wishes,
mati

Hello Mati
I too am new to this web site.
Good luck on your rotations and lay off the coffee! Ha ha!
And keep in mind, all your hard work will soon pay off.
I mean once you start caring for patients on your own AND your school bills are paid off!
My husband is an ER Physician and over the years he's run across a few patients who had suffered a mild cardiac "episode" while staying in higher alltitude camp sites there in Yosemite Ntl Park, Tualome Meadows.
We sometimes volunteer our services while "camping" in the Park.
Once the patients got back down to lower elevations their PVCs subsided fine without further medications.
But it did give them a scare as we're younger and wouldn't expect something like that to happen.
My husband felt it was combination of being a little dehydrated, combined with a little "panicking"
over the heart skipping/racing...even tho is benign, this can be rather frightening.
Would scare anyone having their heart flip flopping around, especially being so far from civilization.
Even the park rangers get worried knowing any kind of medical help takes time even with today's rapid response,
helicoptors & life saving electronic devices.
Here's a few photos I gleaned off a friends photo album.
Good luck on your endevor and always keep in mind...never take life personal!
Life is but just a short journey, love and live as if it was your last moment.
