I hope this forum is able to give us all the reseach we had before. In case they don't I'm going to start posting what I can dig up and remember. There is another excellent Sjogren's forum at www.sjogrensworld.org. There is already a lot of medical and practical advice stored in that forum. And I hope there will be more in both places in case we lose one of them.

do people with sjogren's syndrome (ss) have dry eyes and mouth through out the day or just when sleeping?
my multiple sclerosis neurologist wants me to be tested for ss because i have no saliva during sleep and reduced moisture in my eyes as well. during the day when i am awake all is normal.
is this normal for ss?

My Sjogrens seems to be 24 hours a day dryness. I use Salagen during the day and a dose right before bed. I also use Biotene mouth gel at night. I use a liberal amount to coat my mouth and then swallow a small sized piece to coat the throat. And when I get up at night (pit stop), I use the mouth gel again. This gets me thru the night really well.
The eyes require GenTeal gel right before bed and I sleep in Eyeeco Moisture goggles. Could not be without them. Most precious thing I own. During the day I use Bion Tears.
Everyone is different. You might try using a humidifier in your bedroom. That may make a big difference. I use two in the bedroom and one large room sized one in the main part of the house.

I goofed when I posted the mouth gel name. It's actually called Oral Balance and is made by Biotene. Sorry for any problems.

I tried Evoxac, it made alot of saliva, but didn't cause my eyes to have moisture. I have sleep deprevation problems, and I've found the Evoxac cancels out my sleep med.
I also tried Restasis w/o any success at all.. and eye plugs too, no relief.
BYW, PwMS, for me dry eyes and mouth are 24/7. The testing for Sjogrens is not very sophisticated, and doesn't always rule it in or out.
I recently asked my eye doc for a steroid eye drop to reduce inflammation casued my the dryness. They do seem to help a bit, as I am not having to use my OTC eyedrops every 10 minutes - instead, now I can get 30 min. in before I have to use the OTC eyedrops again. 'course now, the steroid eye drops can only be used for a very short pd. of time.

If you have tried Evoxac, you might try Salagen. It works differently for me. On the Evoxac I had saliva but on the Salagen I have saliva and some help with moisture in my eyes. It's very little, but I can feel the difference when it wears off.
