Great for those “not packaged for resale” Halloween handouts. :D

We went to the Zoo’s Spectacular with the kids today. This evening I was resting after celebrating the lighting of the jack-o-lanterns (6-7 year olds laughing and running around in the dark.) My 7 year old son (G.F.) comes up with a wrapped candy and tells me he was trying to read the ingredients and had “looked very hard”, but could not find them. Bless his heart. Ahh, they were eight Sixlers. :) I only think I ever saw those in the 60’s Halloweens! So I looked for them on the internet searching for / Sixlers “gluten free” /. Man, there are a lot of thieving redirection sites fishing off of the phase “gluten free”. So, I just searched for / Sixlers ingredients / and found the above site.

Hal

(They looked very good -- the evil Hal would have said, "Oh, sorry, son, " ...)

This is a great link - my son Ted used to love Brach's Chocolate Stars, and I see from the link that they are gluten-free. :)

We take fencing classes, and they sell red licorice sticks for 25 cents apiece in the office area. Ted remarked that he couldn't have those because they contain gluten. An older boy asked him about that, and was shocked (shocked!) to learn that red licorice is made from wheat. "WHAT? I thought red licorice was made from (he smiled as he realized he was about to say something stupid) ...the red, chewy plant..." We all had a laugh. Much like the "white bread" made from..."white" we all seem to hear about.

Have a safe gluten-free Halloween, everyone!! Now instead of checking for razor blades in apples, we check for gluten on candy bar wrappers....

Brach's candy. They still won't say if any of their candy is GF. :( Maybe when there is a definition of GF they will let us know more. This is from a recent post on St John's list.

Thank you for your interest in Brach’s and for contacting us about the gluten free status of our Brach*s candy products. Please be advised that the FDA has yet to establish any standards or guidelines. Consequently, we do not consider any of our products gluten free.
