I am new to this forum and am seeking information from others that have been along this path. I had a colloid cyst of the third ventrical removed in 1999. I understand it was a six and a half hour operation.
For the next several months I had severe headaches of all types, migrane cluster etc. I was admitted for a spinal test to determine if fluid was being properly distributed. As a result of this test I wound up back in the hospital for a week during which time I had CT, MRI scans, eeg, emg ekg tests performed. In the end the diagnosis was arthtitis in the neck.
Over the years with therapy and appropriate exercise the headaches have diminished.
Lately I have been experiencing severe neck pain at the base of the skull on the right side extending across the base into the right shoulder and occaisionally down the upper arm.
During one of these experiences I was engaged in a meeting and suddenly was not present. I was aware of surroundings but not people. My son who was also present indicated that my face went blank. I did not pass out but was un aware of the events for the rest of the meeting. My son drove home and I don't remember the drive.
I have just completed a CT scan and MRI and am awaiting an appointment with a neurologist. My doctor told me that the tests showed "severe" arthrtis and disc degeneration.
Question to any one:- Has anyone else experienced any thing like this, can the arthritis and possible disc problem cause these symptoms similar to a seizure. Not knowing how many types of seizures there are I always answered no when asked as I onlt know of a grand mal seizure.
I appologize for rambling and any commenmts would be appreciated.

Hey, David. :)

I'm so sorry you feel so bad. :( The best advice I can give you, though, is to forget about seeing the neuro. He won't help you. You need a neurosurgeon. The neuro can't do anything but treat your symptoms. He will give you pain med for headaches and maybe an AED for seizures. The nsg, OTOH, can address why you're in so much pain and do something about it. It's quite likely you have fluid obstruction (hydrocephalus) from the cyst (and possibly scarring) and may need surgery for a shunt to drain the fluid. The neurologist can't do anything about that and won't even understand how it's connected to your pain. Please call a nsg this week, and good luck!
