was wondering what conditions are covered under SSI

Tanner's been dx'd with Aortic Valve Stenosis with Mild regurg, Asthma and IBS-C already. Not sure if all or any would qualify him. I know that it's a PIA to get once you're an adult, should I start the filings now to see what they say or is it a lost cause?

My advice is to go to "www.ssa.gov" and read everything about disability, especially how it applies to your particular situation. There is a lot of information. It never hurts to file, but you need to know the initial qualifications that must be met, or you could be wasting your time.

By the way...you do know there is a big difference between SSDI and SSI?

It has been said many times. The name of the disease, the diagnosis, is not nearly as important as how that particular disease/illness/condition affects that individual person. One person with diabetes goes to work every day. Another goes to dialysis three times a week in his wheelchair. Both have a 'named' illness.

Parts of your post confuse me. This is a question about SSI benefits for a child?

"I know that it's a PIA to get once you're an adult,"
What does this mean?

"should I start the filings now to see what they say or is it a lost cause?"
A finding of non-disability today does not mean that there will never be a finding a disability. Medical conditions change over time. People recover from illness and injury, people get worse from illness or injury. The human body is not static. Some people are cured. Others do not improve.

SSI is a public assistance program for persons with limited income and assets. In children cases, it is the income and assets of the parents that matter.

Lots of complicated rules. Wayyyyyy too much to condense in a post on this board.

Do we really have to spell out for you what "PIA" means? Or, more properly, "PITA"...;)

And as an Adult who has actually gone thru the "process", not just "spectated" , I can tell you with absolute authority that it is a "PITA", even if thats not the location of an "actual" pain...:)

Not an acronym I use, generally speaking, but DUH, I should have figured it out. I was thinking of PIA which is Primary Insurance Amount as is used in SSDI claims.

Lots of worthwhile things might be a PIA if that is what you believe.

Yeah I was Talking about SSI - I do know there's a difference bet. SSI and SSDI. I've been on SSI since a child and I still had some fighting to do to keep it when I was 18 even though their own dr's said I could only work for the max of 2 hours/day and POSSIBLY 2-3 days/week.

But at the moment I don't really see any of T's conditions effecting his normal daily activities so I think I'll save that battle for IF the time arrives ;)
