Hello this is my first posting. My sister had brain surgery yesterday to have colloid cyst removed, she was having a bit of memory loss before, but her memory is lasting about 2 minutes. Is this normal after surgery, any information would be appreciated. I m very worried she is my youngest sister with 5 children.

Hey, Lynne. :)

Welcome to BT! :D I'm so sorry about your sister's cyst and surgery. :( I don't have a cyst, but I am a lifelong neurosurgery patient and can tell you that memory issues are very common with both neuro dxs and surgery. Since the surgery just took place, her memory is probably more disturbed than it will be later, as she recovers. She may still have issues with it along the way, but there are ways to cope that may make it easier for her. :)

I went to send the link to the colloid cyst forum and saw that you have already found it. :) I know you'll get a good deal of assistance there, too.

Hang in, and thanks for being a concerned sister! :)

Hi Lynne,
I answered your post on the Colloid Cyst forum. (Thanks Lizard for directing her there :) ) I hope your sister is showing some signs of improvement in memory, but it can take awhile. My neurosurgeon kept saying, "take your time, it will come." That was frustrating because I am impatient by nature.

Hope to hear from you soon, Dodi

Dodi, darlin', your headaches are GONE?? WOO-HOO!!!!! :D :D Awesome!!

Lynne...I know this is all new to you, hon'. The best thing to do is to make a list of all the questions and concerns you can think of and just rattle 'em off. You have the right to the info and to feel satisfied with the answers. The doctors may not be able to tell you exactly what you want to hear, as everyone is different, but make it known that you want as much info as they're able to give you--the good, the bad, and the ugly, 'cause there's likely to be some of all three.

Please keep us up to date.

((((((((HUGS)))))))))),

LIZARD :)

Lynne,
I think the docs have a hard time telling folks about possible outcomes after this type of surgery because they are not quite sure themselves. These cysts are so individual in nature, and the approach to removal can, in itself, can cause potential problems.
