Glenn, I don't know the exact reason this happens but I have experienced it with my meds. It appears to me that it is more about how our stomach acts on it. Foods that are hard to breakdown seem to create the mildest effect of my meds and an empty stomach or foods that are processed quickly seem to give my meds a jump start. I don't know if this is the process or if it makes sense to anyone else but it does seem to work this way on my meds.

Just be sure to eat the right things when taking your meds so you get the proper effect from your meds.

I alway take my meds on a empty stomach. I was on one that is the way it was to be taken and or 2 hours after you eat. Now that was a pain in the behine.

Glenn,

I'm on Oxycontin as well and you're right about the food. In my quest to learn everything about this med before I started taking it I ran across a website that told people to take it on an empty stomach and then eat sugar and/or a food high in fat. Turns out this website was intended for people who wanted to abuse the med and this is one of the "tricks" for a more rapid release.

I can't remember the website address and I had posted about this before the big crash. What I do is after taking the Oxy I give it 90 minutes to break down on its own and during that time I'm careful what I eat and I only drink water. I don't have problems with that "hard hit" from the Oxy anymore.
