Okay, Christina...you started something LOL! Here is another interesting tidbit about something else altogether.

For those of you who have or are thinking about getting a "Ripping Turntable"....heads up! I have the ION ITTUSB and yes the software comes with it. The thing is the vinyl recording software HAS to be run with iTunes. There are ways around that and this can get quite lengthy so I will keep it short.

I also have Vista Home Premium on my PC. The workaround for this, after searching various solutions, is to delete the lower and upper registery keys. Of course there is more to it than just that. But it has taken me 3 weeks to get this sorted out. I was looking for other solutions before even attempting to mess with the Registery. And trust me, there are a LOT of people out there pretty angry about this (meaning the software) and about ready to turn in their turntables.

Anyway, problem solved and while I can use iTunes I prefer to use the Windows Media Player...there are reasons for that. And I am still learning various functions.

Sooo...finally...working like a charm. Also, the Audacity software that comes with it is an editing software. So, any scratches or pops you have on LP's can be edited out.

I just wanted to let you all know that if running Vista...there are comptability issues...so just giving a heads up. It is not as easy as you might think.

But...now I am a happy camper and the CD's sounds great in my car!

You know I have so wanted one of those. I have stacks of albums both here and at my mother's that I can't bear to part with. I called a while back and asked about having them copied and put on a CD and was told it was illegal due to copyright issues DUH. Never occured to me. I also have cassettes that I would like to have put on my MP3. I do have an MP3 adapter for the car that I got for Xmas that works great.

Christina,

I believe it is only illegal if you burn them and then try to SELL them or share as in giving someone access to where you store them i.e., internet. Other than that, for your own personal use, no, it is not illegal. I think IF it were illegal, than these turntables, Ipods, MP3 Players, etc., would not be flying off the shelves. Anyway, I am NOT planning on sharing or selling LOL! And from what my brother told me some of these albums you just CANNOT find on CD at all. So, what's a girl to do? LOL

Christina, it isn't illegal to copy items for your own use only if you get a profit or someone else profits from your efforts is it illegal.

Kathi, I am glad you finally got it up and running. My wife got me one but it operates on its own and I can hook it up to my computer [I haven't done that yet]. I would rather have a real turntable but she doesn't understand electronics and got one from radio shack instead. After I get it hooked up to my computer it may be just as good and I will run it through MS media player.

Mark,

Thanks!

For what it is worth though...I am not a stereo guru either but my brother is. And of course we are both computer nerds. But what he told me was (because I was lamenting this turntable for a bit), that it is NOT so much the turntable as it really is the software; the converting and editing software both and that blasted iTunes (another issue too). So, I wouldn't fault the turntable too much just yet. :D If you have any compatability issues, I am certain your son can find some workarounds. :) As a techno geek told me, "Can you raise your hand and say...thank you Apple?" LOL Anyway, you are right..****nning it through Media Player is NOT an issue....it is just in the getting there.
