I have been doing some reasearch on this iRobot Scooba that vacuums and mops your floor. According to my research this thing beats out any mopping by hand (unless you are able to get on your hands and knees ) or electric floor scrubber. I know it is pretty expensive but if it does what it says it does then I would consider it a great investment. So.. I was wondering if anyone has any experience with these or knows anyone that has.

Thanks guys, have a great weekend.

Christina, this sounds to good to be true to me,but hope you get some replies from someone who has actually used one. The floors where I live (oak) are so grimy it drives me nuts! I can handle vacuuming somewhat (when dog hairs drive me to do it),but I know better than to mop anymore!

I've always wondered how noisy these robots are,and if they just spin when they run into dining rooms chair legs, etc. Dirty floors are my pet peeve, but when you live in the country, have alot of mud,and a big footed dog-what can you do?

What does Consumer Reports have to say about these?

My friend says it's great if your floors are well sealed, flat (like new) and you don't use the vacumm for allergies since it kicks the dust up

All of the consumer reports that I have read say they work great for the type of work that they do. The complaints were far fewer than any other product. Of course there is always going to be somebody unhappy about something. I was trying to find something like a carpet cleaner type thing only for solid floors and the customer reviews for everything except the Scooba were pretty awful. I had one of those ready mop type things but those things are only good for spot cleaning and if you try to mop a whole floor then you have to use too many pads. With the Scooba I would just set it before bed and move what needed to be moved, let it run and when I get up just put everything back. My rooms are small so I can probably do dining and kitchen on one charge. I would really only need one virtual wall and that is only if it tried to cross the divider between the carpet and linoleum.

Okay......somebody buy one and let me know how it works LOL.

Christina,

LOL I will run right out and buy one!! Actually you have a good idea there. Why not purchase one and find out what the return policy is? Often times you can buy an electronic item and have 14 days to return it for any reason. So when you buy one, let the rest of us know how it really works.:)

Christina,

I don't have any experience with those little robots LOL! But I tend to lean what Buttons is saying...I wonder too if they don't get stuck against something and just spin. Supposedly, they bounce off and go on about life. :) I don't know...I would want to see a REAL demonstration I think before I bought one. But it would be neat if they really worked well. And, dirty floors are my pet peeve too. I feel if they aren't spotless then nothing else is either. :D Anyway, for now, I use a Hoover hard floor cleaner I THINK it is...without going downstairs and looking at it and it is fairly lightweight. And just as a side note...I am glad I had that thing when my pups had Giardia. I had to keep the floors sanitized at all times and just a bit of of bleach along with hot, hot water in the thing did the trick without doing any damage. The only pain really is the fact that you have to empty out the dirty water and I DO have to walk with it...not really pushing and pulling too much and it takes me a long time. But it works pretty darn well! For in between times I just use the Swifter Wet Jet. But you are right about the pads too. It says one pad is suppposed to cover one large room. Baloney...I go through at least two or three for one room! :D

Lisa,

I just saw your post. So, I will nominate you to go out and buy one and you can report back LOL! Just messing with you!

LOL yeah Lisa I agree with Kathi, you are hereby nominated. Let us know LOL. Geez Louise, those puppies are expensive so I better get longer than 14 day trial LOL. I will see if I can find a demo, maybe on YOu Tube or something. Some place that isn't biased.

Hey Christina,

Find out too how they handle corners since they are ROUND LOL! And please be sure to report back. :)

well, checked the pros and cons, watched the videos both from electronics shows and home users and quite frankly I am sold. One of the cons I keep hearing is corners but they are hard to get with a regular mop. Most recommend just going around with a damp rag and getting them, some just shove it in with their toes lol. THey are noisy but I would do it while sleeping after a trial run to see how it does and we sleep with fans 365 days a year (wierd I know) so we would not hear it. From what I can see the pros outweigh the cons even for those that have complaints. Now I need to find some place where I can put it on layaway LOL, gee do they have a 6 month plan?

OK, when you get this new robot we'll have to name it! Or should we hold off until you're sure of owning it? Think of it as a "foster" robot I guess.....

Another thought I had: is the cost more than it would be for hiring someone to come in & clean floors for you?

Good luck!

LOL those people would have to come in every week so no it is not more. Not in the long run. We better make sure first, need to ask permission LOL. Geez not to mention playing catch up for Christmas right now. A foster robot, I like that and it cleans up after itself, what more could you ask for.

Sounds good to me Christina!

If you can get one on layaway and then eventually get it out, let us all know how it turns out. :) Oh, and what did the reports or articles say about how well it scrubbed? I was curious about that too but forgot to ask. :)

I got the okay. At first it was a no go when I told him how much, until I brought up the tool he is in the process of paying for that he got 6 months ago and only told me Friday:mad:. We had a bit of a spat about that. Ordered it from Snap On. Those guys have been a major irritation to me for years LOL. They have this wonderful payment plan $20 a week for whatever you want:mad:. Usually he lets me know because I keep the check book and pay the bills but last time I asked him he told me he only owed them $20. Well that left me thinking he was paid off. Tried to use a technicality on me by saying he thought I meant how much was the payment LOL. I still do not know how much the tool is , he won't tell me because he knows I will probably lose it. Some kind of scanner thing he needs for his work. So all I had to do was bring it up and all he could do was hang his head in defeat and give me the okay. Couldn't resist LOL. I know, sounds cruel and manipulative but a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do:rolleyes::D:o. Now I just need to find where I can get it from and can put it in layaway. BY the time I pay it off my grandchildren may be inheriting it:eek::p:D.
