Anybody have any comparisons to offer?
I have recently been prescribed 20 mg Lunesta for sleep problems... my trouble is the next day I feel woozy and brainfogged all day. It takes practically an entire pot of coffee to eradicate the cobwebs from my head...

Any other experiences or advice to share?

Thank you!

I read somewhere once that they could be different but are probably not. One did a slightly different test than the other sole for marketing reasons - I think lunesta proved that it wasn't very addictive over 12 weeks or somesuch, so they could advertise it like you wouldn't get dependent, but it's not that Ambien is necessarily worse, just that they didn't test for that. And the test was pretty thin - in other words, a sleeping pill that is strong enough to work could get you dependent.
Although in truth, I have tried both in large amounts before I got decent pain meds, and once I got decent pain meds I had no trouble getting off either - they're certainly not like heroin!
Good luck

hey ponyguy, *bunch

in reading about lunesta vs. ambien, it says that lunesta has a half-life of 6 hours, whereas ambien has a half-life of 2-2.6 hours.

half-life is the time it takes for half of the amount of chemical you originally took to leave your system.

thus, half the chemicals in lunesta are excreted from your system 6 hours after you take it, whereas half the chemicals in ambien are excreted from your system in 2 to 2.6 hours. this could explain why it's hard to get up in the morning after taking lunesta.

i hope things are improving with your wife. i have been following reports from ponygirl in the forums the last few weeks and know this is a hard time for you. keep your spirits up!

i don't know if you'll get used to the lunesta, but i would tell the doctor that the lunesta just makes you too drowsy when you are supposed to be awake.

best wishes to you and your family,
jeannie

Gene,

I took only 3mg of lunesta before the insurance co. had a fit about paying for it. Why did your doc prescribe such a huge dose.
I am now taking Ambien 10mg and it seems to be working fine.

I have never had the problems you have had.

Hope this helps and finds you well,

Kathy
