Monday i am having a nerve test done by my PM. I have had the cattle prod thing done a couple of years ago which showed slight changes in my left leg and carpel in both wrists. My PM said that the prod only really indicates a problem, but using needles will be more accurate. Is this very painful? Will it actually show if my leg and hip pain are from my back and where? I thought that there was a nerve test that was actually done on your back. Am i confused? Anyway, if it isn't obvious i am a little in the dark about this test.

Also on a side note. I have posted in the past about the lack of control of my pain using my current regiment and my husbands concerns about me doing something more regulated. We talked big time this week and he understands my need to have a better quality of life not just quantity. One can only rest and be isolated for so long without going crazy. I know meds aren't the save all, but i do know that with the csf leak, back, jaw, fibro, recent abdominal surgery something has to change. I can't take any of the anti-depressants because i drip with sweat, yet swell in extremities. They think it is something to do with my hypothalmus from my stroke. I do at times wish that i could take something as i know that cp is depressing, and we are all only human.

Thanks for any clues about the test, and how to have best results.
DK

Hi DK,
I have had the nerve conduction tests done on my arms several times and they were not painful at all. I do know folks who have felt discomfort and I talked to the doc about that. He said the older machines caused some pain but, most hospitals or docs have the newer machines now so I don't think you have to worry about it. The test did show where there was nerve damage in my arm but, that was already pretty apparent from the pain. Don't know how it will work with your back and leg.

I am so sorry you are struggling so with pain and depression and hope this test helps to pinpoint where the problem is. Please let us know monday after the test how it went for you.

Take care,
Diandra

I don't know much about nerve tests but I have had an EMG done on my lower legs and feet. Is yours an EMG or NCV?

DK, I hope your test went well and there wasn't too much discomfort. Did you get results that explained what the source of your pain is? I hope you got good results and your doctor has a better idea of treatment for your pain.

I really feel concerned about you, because you have enough problems without having any more pain than is necessary. When opiates are needed, they can make you feel like Lazarus. The latest studies prove that getting rid of pain makes our immune system stronger, makes us heal faster, and squeeze vitamins out of our food more efficiently, just to name a few things other than depression. God didn't tell us to look for opportunities to suffer pain.
