I was just wondering since we were all talking about clothes the other day if anyone has found some great after Christmas sales?

I just have to tell you all since we were also talking about Christmas trees the other day that I found one. My pre-decorated tree that I was using I lost the adapter to so it never was lit up! It was definitely a sad tree so I pitched it. But before doing so, and this is crazy, I snipped off some of the decorations (they were flat) to stick on presents next year as a decoration. And, hey, this was my husband's idea...why not put those things to use? :)

Anyway, I was in CVS yesterday getting what else but prescriptions. But they were having a 90% off sale. So, I saw this 6.5 prelit Douglas Fir tree...last one. The picture on the outside of the box wasn't too bad at all. I have no clue what it actually looks like. But what is hilarious is that I got it for $4.99! So, I brought it home and my husband was cracking up. But I told him, "Hey, when it comes out of the box next year and IF it looks like crap, I will have only wasted $4.99!"

So, you all, if you have a CVS in your area, you might want to go and check it out. My mom is stocking up on all kinds of things and hitting up all the CVS's in the area LOL!

Does anyone else have any after Christmas sales stories they would like to share? I am just wondering because there are some great sales going on!

I wish !
I went to the store a few days ago to see if they had put the pearl necklace I had wanted before Christmas on sale. Nope--no sale. I thought about getting some holiday wrapping paper, but, since I waited till a few days before Christmas to get it, it was already on sale then (and no difference in price).... I do not really need anything that are on sale, so it is all good :) .

Glad to see you got some great deals Kathi !

I hit up Kohl's a couple of days back because hubs and I had gotten gift cards for Christmas to the store. I ended up making out like a bandit on clothing for him. Tee-shirts that were regularly 18.00 (graphic tee's) were $1.50-$3.50 a piece, so I stocked up for him, as well as Champion Hooded Sweatshirts that were $35.00 were marked down to 13.50 each! Woohoo! I didn't do quite so well in the Juniors dept for myself, but jeans were marked from $40.00 to $25.00, I picked up some cute curdory slacks for $12.00 and some tops that were on the 50% off rack that were between $12 and $20.

All in all, I spent alot less than I would have normally and with the gift cards I only had to spend $20 of my own money. I love hitting up great sales...I'm a self-confirmed sale rack shopper...I look at the sale racks first. I really miss getting that employee discount though. Back in HS, I worked for Nine West (I have a shoe addiction :D ) and it was GREAT to be able to get a break on all the shoes, bags and accessories across the conglomerate, so I could get Enzo Anglioni's at 40% off for Mom, sassy Nine West shoes for myself, and pick up some Easy Spirit's for my grammy all at a discount.

Anyone else get any good sales this post-holiday clearance?

GNW,

I am sorry the necklace wasn't on sale. :( Isn't that the way though? The things you THINK might be on sale...aren't. I should have looked at wrapping paper but I still have plenty of that. I was just shocked at this tree deal. What I really want, and don't laugh, is a fiber optic poinsettia tree. My mom has a really neat one. So, I went online to look and found a really nice one...but still over $100.00. You would think THAT thing would be on sale but it isn't. I hope you keep your eye on that necklace...MAYBE it will go on sale eventually. :)

Theresa,

That does it LOL! I am going to have to march on over to Kohl's. :) You got some great deals! And I love shoes as well! The thing is...now I have to be careful about what I buy. My podiatrist warned me about buying shoes that bend in the middle. So, I have to look for supportive ones. But I DID buy some Easy Spirit ones the other day and they didn't bend LOL! Today my husband has to go to the mall to pick up some pants that he had hemmed. I am going to look around some more because it is very rare that I get to the mall. I usually go to Kohl's since it is right down the street from me. And it is just simply easier to go there, get what I need, and get back home. But darn it...now I am chomping at the bit because I want to see what's out there LOL! Plus, have two birthdays coming up; my best friend and my daughter.

Oh, and as an added thought. I think I either posted or maybe I didn't. But my daughter is getting engaged. Her boyfriend/fiancee talked to me last night and he wants me to plan an engagement/birthday party for her with just family members. I am LOVING this. Her birthday is Valentine's Day...sooo...how appropriate. She has no clue other than she knows he put a deposit down on this set. But he wants to propose on her birthday. So, he and I are in the beginnings of the planning stage. And, of course, she was tyring to get info. from me last night. But I didn't let on about any of it. :)

The funny thing is...is something my niece told me the other day. She told me 2008 will be great BECAUSE...she plans on trying to get pregnant lol (that girl and her PLANNING mode lol), my other niece is already pregnant and due on Valentine's day, and now my own daughter will be getting engaged and possibly married within the year. So, yep, these girls have got it going on LOL! It is exciting and fun for me because I can sit back and more or less enjoy it all. :)

Sorry for rambling...but I am just so happy and excited for all 3 of them!

Wow Kathi that is wonderful. How proud you must be and rightly so.

As for sales, the Kmart in my area has all of their gift sets and Christmas stuff on sale for 50% off and I am waiting to see if they go down any more. Those gift sets are great for extended family and teachers or coworkers or someone who you just don't know what to get for them. The coffee and tea sets, sampler cookie sets, bath sets, candle sets, personal care sets, all kinds of stuff. Would be great to stock up on them for next year. Even for the person who shows up for the holidays at the last minute and you need a gift.

Kathi,

Wow $4.99 for a tree that's a great deal!! I do have a CVS right down the road from me so I might run in there and see what's left.

There have been alot of great sales around here on clothes but I'm determined not to buy anything new until I get my weight back on. All the clothes I have now fall off of me, but I refuse to believe that I will look like a sack of bones forever. I did pick up a pair of shorts from the girl's section in Walmart, out of desperation, but they look funny with Barbie on the back pocket, LOL!! Picture a 42 year old woman walking around with Barbie on her behind!! I'm sure lots of people got a good laugh out of that one.

Kathi,

I have that tree!   ...LOL:D I've always had a real tree until this year. I simply couldn't do it this year, go pick out a real one, drag it home, saw off the bottom, and put it up by myself. I almost didn't decorate for Christmas at all since my three kids were going to be spending the holiday with my ex. My younger daughter and I were at RiteAid and that tree was on sale 1/2 price 3 weeks before Xmas and jokingly I told my daughter that we should get it. My daughter said "why not??...we should"...I was so surprised she'd be willing to have a smaller & fake tree in the house but I jumped at the chance to make life a little easier!;) . You are going to love how easy it is to assemble!;) It's a bit skinny, and a little sparse on branches, but with the ton of ornaments I have from always having a big tree, it filled in well!:D We made up for it being so short by placing it on a wooden wine crate that gave it a 12" boost, draped the tree skirt over the plastic tree legs and crate, then put the set of 4 Xmas dolls I have from "Christmas Around the World" below the tree so it wouldn't look unbalanced.

Anyhow, I really did miss having a real tree, but if I'm feeling the same way next Christmas as I did this past Christmas, I won't hesitate to put that little tree up again!:)

Kathi,
I just wandered in to CVS and all I ended up with was a bunch of wrapping paper, nut at 90% off it was well worth it.

I just haven't been in the mood to shop, at all..

My son and his GF gave me gift card for Hobby Lobby back in October for my birthday, which I love, there and Joann Fabrics Super Center.

I still have it in my purse, I kept thinking I would go after Christmas and get the really good sales, I just don't have the urge..

Christina,

You're right! There are all kinds of things on sale that would make perfect gifts for next year. :)

Lisa,

LOL! Barbie on the behind huh? That is too funny! But, check this out...when I was around 40 or so, I was collecting Barbies! You know...like the Gone With the Wind Series and that sort of thing.

Kim,

I figured that tree might be a bit sparse even though the picture doesn't look that way. But I thought the same thing you did....even if it is, I can certainly fill it in. :) That's a cute idea about the dolls and I always boost mine up and drape it too. That way you can really fill in and around it with packages.

Linda,

I love JoAnn Fabrics and Hobby Lobby! I can sew I just haven't done so for awhile and actually have a project waiting in the wings. But I love going to JoAnn Fabrics just for the Holiday decorations alone. :)

And last but not least. I was in search of black slacks today. The problem is...I need jet black to wear with this sweater I just bought. I walked and walked and walked that mall today and didn't find what I was looking for. I think you gals would know what I mean. There are different shades or contrasts of black. It drove me nuts...but the walking did me good or at least I was telling myself it was. I guess it was a bit much because I went sound to sleep as soon as I got home. :)

Sears has massive reductions on everything! I got my DH a robe $70 for $35.
I took my daughters boyfriend shopping and got those good tee shirts with the pocket for $6. Dickies pants were $24.95. The guy always has holes in his pants. Hes still in college so no dough for clothes.

Kathi, you know how old I am, but I STILL get the holiday Barbie. :D I got my Mom the Red velvet gown with jewels and such hanging all over her.

That was her last Christmas. She lived about a month after Christmas. She said it was too pretty to open it up. I craweled up on that bed and the 2 of us took it out of the box. She wanted me to put it where she could see it without moving.
I brought it home when she died and it has a special place in one of my china cabinets.

BB, if I saw Barbie on some jeans I would buy them and wear them. Yes, I am a bit strange sometimes, but if something strikes my fancy I will get it.:p

take care all, Jo

DH got me a real nice palm size camcorder for Christmas, I really like i t, unfortunately if anything has more then an off and on switch I'm totally confused, thank goodness the computer just stays on..

Anyway I was checking out the on line sales and found a sewing cabinet I loved and with my DD and her family living here I lost my craft room,, so I haven't been doing much sewing or anything other then mending, anyway I ordered the cabinet and it came, I just love it and have the perfect spot for it.

So intend to get back in to sewing, many, many years ago I use to sew a lot and was pretty good, now I can't even remember how to use a pattern, I'm hoping to really get back in to it, I have made my drapes and things like that, but I'd also like to male my GD baby doll clothes and Barbie clothes and such..

I'm concerned it my hands will allow me though as they just don't do well any longer.

Gotta go, we having new windows and siding put on the house, they were suppose to start the week after Thanksgiving, however we are having unusual warm weather this week for Ohio so that's good as we have 28 windows, my house is torn apart as everything had to come of the walls and away from all the windows. I also have 3 dogs that are going to be very unhappy for the next few weeks, I can't wait for the final product but don't know if I will survive the work.
Sorry off topic there, just kind of excited out old windows are so bad we have ice on the inside!!

Lil e,

I was in Sears yesterday myself. :) And I know what you mean by college students walking around with holes in their clothes. I know of one right now that all he ever asks for is sweats and jeans LOL! He is my best friend's nephew and we laugh all the time because he invests ANY money he makes elsewhere...just not in clothes. :) That was nice of you to take your daughter's boyfriend out. My own daughter has long since graduated. And I have to laugh because prior to going to college I INSISTED she have some good boots...NOT the fashionable kind..but good snow boots. She thought I was nuts. But IU does NOT put salt down when it is icy or snowy...the buildings are made of limestone so they just do not use salt at all. Anyway, I got her some good hiking/snow boots. It wasn't a year later that she said it was the best thing I could have ever thought of! :)

Jo,

That was sweet yet sad. I think it is neat you have a special for her. Those Holiday Barbies are awesome. I have a few still in the box but have told my daughter they belong to her. Now, I do have the more expensive ones in a curio cabinet. If you have ever seen the Empress Bride, you will know what I am talking about. She is beautiful. And, NO, I did NOT buy her. My husband did. And you CAN take those types out of the box; they won't lose their value. But all of them actually will go to my daughter. It was just fun for awhile to go to shows and that sort of thing. But then the market became saturated with them. So, I stopped collecting. Oh, well...it was fun while it lasted LOL! But now I am on a pension...so forget it LOL!

Linda,

The camcorder sounds very nice! But I know what you mean about being confused. I am having issues with my new turntable and Vista! I think I have found a workaround though. And I hear you...as soon as I get my craft room together I will attempt to go back to sewing. I miss it! Your new cabinet sounds nice! And I know what you mean by trying to remember a pattern LOL! The project I have waiting is a costume for the DAR. Every year they march in the Veteran's Parade and wear period costumes. Well, I bought all the stuff and was raring to go...but my neck flared as it usually does and I had to stop. But at least the skirt is done. :) Actually, it is a Colonial riding habit pattern...but a nicer version. IF I ever get it done, it would be fun to wear it. And the windows sound nice too! That is something my husband keeps mentioning too. I don't think ours are bad...I think he just wants double pane.

And last but not least; I was thinking about something to add here last night and this is funny.

Bath and Body Works is having a buy two get two free sale. I really like the way they worded that LOL! Anyway, has anyone ever tried the citrus bath scrub called, "Have a Marguerita""?! It is part of their Blue Spa collection. Anyway, a friend of mine bought me some last year and I thought she was NUTS! WHY would I want to smell like a Marguerita???!! LOL I got that stuff home and tried it and fell in love with it. I didn't read what is all in it but there is some kind of emollient or oils or something. But that is best stuff ever! And, no, you do not end up smelling strongly like a Marguerita! So, when I went to the mall with my husband I went looking for more of that stuff. There were only two jars left and I grabbed them up. Okay, I know it sounds weird and I do save my better stuff for other occasions. But this scrub gets rid of those winter itchies and makes your skin feel very smooth!

Kathi, I guess you could call the Barbie Doll a bitter/sweet moment. Mom had said she wished she had a doll like she had as a child. A porcelain doll with sofe body. I didn't have too much time to shop for Christmas so Barbie at around 80 bucks wasn't too much that year.

I've done what you said about the collecting thingy. too bad, but I have opened most of mine. they were pleasing to the eye for me. The granddaughters all want Scarlet in Red when I die. only because they know it belonged to thier great-grandmother.

I haven't been out much since Christmas. I was also late shopping for Christmas. As I said on another thread that it is hard shopping with a walker. On Dec. 23 I did most of my shopping. American Eagle and Hollisters as well as Belks all had their stuff marked way down. Hallmark also had many marked down. I will go there on the way to one of these Drs. Visit this week and see what they did since I was last there.

I have Drs. visits every day this week. comes around every month!!

Well, happy shopping, Jo
