Now, Ms. Kathi I'm posting to you girls and yes I mean girls!! You can be a gal between 30 and 50 years old, but then it is time to go back to "you girls"!! Besides, we have earned a right to be called any thing and I choose "girls"*boogie
now about the cute little Jeans and things with signature on them in sparkles are adorable,at any age! I speak with a forked tongue sometimes.:p
Yes, who says we have to stop wearing things that tickle's our fancy, right? right!!
Now we come to MEDICURE and SS and I go mad. I signed up at age 65, which came 2007 on Oct. 3 1942. Maybe I shouldn't speak of these things that label you as ancient or whatever. Y'all already know I can't spell , now you know I am OLD!!
So, I choose to be whatever I want and not feel old. they say it is only the state of the mind, anyway. Who knows. When y'all become 65 tell me how I need to act, call myself and dress.
I have several things that truely make me feel younger:p So, why not wear these clothes that are pleasing to the eye? I don't see a thing wrong myself.
I've got this all jumbled up here and nobody understands me I suppose. Medicare and cutsey clothes, why not? the people at SS office made me feel like I was not worthy of their time, much less mention giving me money.
Well, I hold my head up high and ask BB & Kathi if they wanta go shopping with me. We'll show those snooty women what "good taste is".
How about it girls? wanta go:D All are invited and you don't have to tell your age. Nor your weight. I'm ok at the moment in the right weight group, but who knows what will come along. We Could have sweet BB's shoes to walk in. Over weight and under-weight are somewhat the same, difference, but medical reasons for both.
 Now how the heck did we get to that?? Well, we can ramble on and on if we want. Also a perk of being in the Medicare age.;)
So, when do you want to go girls? I'm ready when you are.
Jo, the great grandma of this group
Happy New Year to all my friends that I have gotten to know here on this board!

LOL, you know Jo as a big girl in her early forties I have come to realize that I really have had to adjust what I wear. Like hip huggers, whoever made hip huggers for women in my size should be slapped, skirts that are mid thigh and a tube top a big no no for big girls. I see some of the clothes in the "girls" section and I think oh that is so cute but know that if I saw someone else my age or older and my size or bigger wearing it I would be thinking, what did you see when you looked in the mirror this morning?
I have seen some very much older women wearing, very tastefully, much younger "girl" clothing. If you know what you are doing then I say go for it but no one wants to look like a teenage hooker no matter how old you are, well except for the hookers, LOL OMG did I just say that? I have been shopping in the voluptuous women's section since I was in my mid twenties and the clothes are just plain ugly most of the time.
I seriously am in need of a makeover so I am all in. Whoo hoo, new me for a new year!!!!

Jo, you are NOT the grandma. I beat you by a year. I wear purple when I want to. I worked too many years to worry about what anybody thinks about anything. Why, yesterday, I stayed in my pajamas until noon and I wasn't even feeling especially bad. I did it cause I could.
I wouldn't trade my age for 30 except for the hurting bones.

I rarely wear anything but jeans-or jammies- and that has been he way it is for almost...ever. I have a few dresses and such, but if I have to wear them I am an unhappy MAMA. Give me my faded 501's, a comfy pair of cotton undies, and a tee shirt and I am dresse for the day(note the lack of bra-IF ..MAYBE I feel the need with the shirt I am wearin and I have to go out, I wil struggle into one- but TOS has been the BEST excue for Bra-less=ness. I would have burned mine , butnow when I Do buy them I pay too much;) ) Truly, Paparider, loves me in jeans and bots and looking like the bike mama I am. Itis who he met on Feb 17th many years ago, and who he married April14 (same year) it will be 29 years, in '08. So my jeans are doing something right.
And $200 for jeans, does a caba boy come with them????? I find Great jeans at Wally world, Levis have never failed me, and there are those new ones by...oh gosh Fibro Fog, but they are a big name in Jeans. Also, I have bought some on TV that fit pretty well. Gotta becareful of the in-seam there. Onsome of the TV brans I buy tall and then go have them shorten(for those of you that sew, I am sure you can do it yourelves.)
But Jeans Forever, and Forever in BlueJeans (wasn't that a CW song? )

Hey Girls,
LOL! Hey, I didn't see that price tag on those jeans until after the fact. :D And anymore I wear...whatever. :) Most of the time it is jeans and sweatshirts. And that is the beauty of being retired...you can wear whatever you want right? :) Now, my best friend bought me a pair of jeans for Christmas and they fit great. She tells me she tries them on and if they fit her, she knows they will fit me. And, no, I don't want to look like a hooker LOL! Those others were really cute jeans...just didn't know I was NOT in the Misses section. :o And rest assured there was no way I was going to pay that price AT ALL! But I DID call my niece and tell her about them since she is built really cute. And I told her since she has the "J-Lo" butt, she would look good in them. She was cracking up. And just so you all know. My mom is 81. I CANNOT believe that she FINALLY broke down and bought some low riding hip hugging jeans and looks darn cute in them! I have NEVER known my mom to buy jeans. But since she met and married her new man...she has changed LOL!
Christina, I am laughing because I cannot wear those low rider/hip hugger jeans as I did in the 70's. There is just no way and yes, those people ought to be slapped! :D And what girl do you know is about 7 feet tall or taller?! Geez, I have to have my jeans and pants hemmed constantly and I am 5'4". I wish they made the measurements as they do guys instead of saying size 12 short/average/tall on the tag as an example.
And MamaRider, I can stay in jammies all day too LOL! Sometimes I do. As for bras, I won't go there except to say...what is up with the straps slipping all the time? LOL I finally got some new ones the other day with a bit wider strap...problem solved. :D
And Jo, last but not least...I am ready to shopping...that is when everyone else feels up to it too. :)

Hey will I have to pay rental for a wheelie cart?
OMG I just bought some new bras, I am sick of bras that ride up in back. Yes I am well endowed and they fit for the first ten minutes I have them on then I have to very subtly adjust wherever I go.
Jammies, sweats, whatever bring them on. I have these men's hanes and fruit of the loom v-neck white tees that I bought super large and I absolutely love them, holes, stains and all. Okay, I don't wear them out of the house but they are still my favorite. I do not own a dress anymore but do have dress clothes. Krikey I can't even wear heels anymore thanks to my poor painful dogs.

Great OT, by the way !!
First let me say Happy New Year All..
I hope the find the new year myself by coming back here and posting and getting out of myself once in a while, what better way then a shopping trip, thanks for the invite Jo.
Jo if you had not listed your age I never would have guesses as you always sound so much younger then me and I always visualized you as the young and vigorous girl you are !!
Now for me I use to be the type that loved jeans ( still do ) but I also loved to put on a dress and heels, my long slim legs was one of my more attractive physical qualities.
I had never thought of myself as a vain person though now I find I have been much more vain then I realized. I woke up one morning and found a person I didn't know looking back at me from the mirror, this over weight person with wrinkles and sagging sad face..
Where I once dressed with pride and pleasure now I dress for comfort and to try blend in to the wood work.
I still try to be neat and presentable when going out but find that the only shoes I can wear are flats, I can no longer wear anything that is tight fighting in my mid or lower back, so I have a hard time finding bra's that will give me support and not kill my mid back and well jeans have to be the type that have stretch to them.
As for the bras, how about it girls, I don't know about you but if it has under wire, it is GONE.. I fond I wear a lot of sports clothes now, you now the support bras with no support but flatten you out to keep you from jiggling, what you use to be a cute bounce is now more like a jello jiggle..
I use to be shopalcoholic and now hate to shop for clothes.

OMG! I am loving this thread...it is fun!
Linda,
I USED to be a shopaholic also. I still like to but I don't want to be gone for more than an hour or two. And I am like you. I LOVED dressing up for work. Anyway, before I retired one gal I know said to me, "Kathi, you used to wear such pretty suits...what happened?" I started laughing because she really didn't mean anything by it. And I know her very well. So, I just said, "Hey, comfort is the thing now since everything hurts." I was still neat and presentable but I went from suits and heels to slacks or jeans and flats, etc. And what was really sad is that I almost had to start buying orthotic shoes. Instead the Podiatrist had me buy New Balance so that I could put the orthotics in them. They were okay...not bad...but still clunky in my opinion. So, I had to toss the leather Keds I used to wear all the time. I still have my flats but since they aren't very supportive I only wear them occasionally.
And I still can wear most of my work clothes so I have hung onto them...dresses, suits, etc. But I really haven't worn them all that much. I just hate to pitch them...not yet anyway. As for bras, I WISH I was well endowed but I am not LOL! And I still buy the underwire.
And have you gals ever watched "Tim Gunn's Guide to Style"? To me it is not like your regular makeover show. This guy really has an eye for what looks good! I felt so sorry for one girl on there one day. She was a federal employee and worked in DC. But her co-workers had nominated her as the "Worst Dressed Federal Employee" in DC! I thought...how cruel! But she was funny...didn't bother her one bit. And I mean to tell you when he was done with her she was a totally different person! And what he really did besides showing her what she should be wearing was to stress the importance of undergarments. OMG! Just the change in the bras she was wearing to something else made all the difference in the world. Okay, I am rambling this morning but this thread is fun. Sooo...as Tim always says..."Designers carry on!" I know, I know...I am too much of a Project Runway fan. But that show cracks me up.
Oh, and just one other thing. I DID shop with and for my husband the other day...my arms are killing me! So, that's why I say...I can't be gone for a long time and carrying shopping bags. He carried the majority of the shopping bags but just the little ole one I was carrying killed my upper arms. I think besides carrying a purse, I will gave to back to carrying something more lightweight. This is what cervical fusions does to ya...just weakness! But all the docs say...keep moving...ugh! :)

Great thread, I say sc@ew em' if they can't handle it! We only live once, live the way you want, not the way someone else thinks we should. I don't know how this got started..........
One day I was walking through the mall and there was this itsy, bitzy, 80+ years lady obviously just had her 15th face lift, weighed about 80 lbs and was 4' 9" at best, no butt what so ever, in 4 inch heals, bedazzled jeans, hair and make up done to the 9 with every diamond she ever owned and a jazzed up purse to boot! Well, first I did a doubt take and laughed at the picture and swore out loud I would grow old gracefully. Then she flew by and left ME standing in the dust eatin' crow. She could walk better, faster and more gracefully in those 4 inch heals then I could in my orthopedic tennis shoes. I learned a very important lesson then. It's not what's on the outside, it's what's on the inside. And she was really only 19 and it was perfectly fine to dress her age! and I was the 80 year old.
If a girl can still go, then you go girl!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh Gimpy I had to laugh at your story about the little old lady, how true. Yes I feel way beyond my years physically and it is a shame that it can affect my mental age. Gee maybe a bedazzled pair of jeans will help that.
I always wanted a bedazzler but I don't know how they will work with sweats. Oh no, no underwires LOL, they poke me in the armpits.

Victorias Secret makes a bra without the wire called Ipex. Its reinforced instead. Also is made with some foam, it keeps its shape and no problems when its cold! hehe! Unfortunately its 40$, but I love mine.
Does anyone else keep two or three sizes of clothes? I do because I never know when I'll be slim or chubby. Depends on the meds.

Lil E,
Thanks for the tip, $40 isn’t bad for a good fitting bra, I’m just so cheap these days, well actually not cheap, just broke.
I was a 7/8 when this all started then a 9/10 to a 11/12 now holding firm at a 14 for a few years and trying hard to go up anymore, that’s doubling my size, YUK !!
I’m going off topic here for a short but I wanted to say to any of you that may be considering cleaning out your closet for the New Year, please consider doing what I did and donate your clothes to a DVS (domestic violence shelter) any children’s clothes you may have also.
Most if these women upon getting out only have the clothes on their backs and if they should have a change they usually aren’t of any value, the DVS not only provides a safe place but also teaches them the skills and tools they need to get decent jobs and make it own their own.
It is much easier to do with a nice outfit or two and not only that it helps a lot with the self esteem that abused women have lost through out the abusive relationships.
Off my soapbox, thanks for listening!!
I have had a very hard time finding clothes that fit me well and have found that proper fitting clothes do make a big difference, I found this summer that the Dress Barn has reasonably priced cloths that fit well in plus sizes, we don’t have one around here where I live but they do offer on line shopping,
I never liked to catalog shop for clothes but know with the pain I have found it is so much easier to try clothes on at home in my own time and space and returns are easier then suffering the pain of hours of shopping.

Lil E,
I also thank you for the tip. I will have to hit up on Victoria's Secret. But like Linda...a bit broke at the moment. Okay, now don't laugh but the only issue I have with some of their bras is that there is too much foam...and then that ends up riding up. You know what I mean LOL! I guess I don't have enough umph to keep those foam pieces in place. :)
Linda,
Good idea! My husband just went through his closet (I asked him to :) ) and had a trashbag full of stuff. I went through my closet too and got rid of a few things but he hauled it all off to Goodwill. But you have a great idea...I didn't think of the DVS. Okay, and like you, I was a 5/6 for years and years. Then when the spinal issues came on and I think because of the meds and injections I quickly went to a 12, then 14 and almost a 16. By the time I retired I was getting close to buying 16's. This was NOT good for my frame either. BUT...the weird thing is I started adding more fiber to my diet, didn't eat out for lunch that much anymore, and it slowly started coming off. It took two years but I am now 10/12 and have been pretty much holding steady there. I will NEVER see a 5/6 again and I know it. If I ever wear that size again it will be on top of my head. :D It is funny because my daughter just told me she is getting engaged! I mentioned my wedding dress which is a size 5 (of course from something like 26 years ago) lol, and it will not fit her at all. But I asked her if she wanted to break into it (I had it preserved) and she just laughed at me. But what I told her is...there are other things in there along with it that she might be able to use. Okay, that is another story for another time. I am just excited because I DEFINITELY want to go wedding dress shopping with her. But it won't be for awhile yet.
Oh, and you are right about Dress Barn. They are reasonable and I like their stuff! :) I have cataloged shopped also but I hesitate in doing too much. Every now and then I might buy something from Chadwick's but I KNOW how their clothes fit me so it isn't too much of a problem. For me, and really most of the time, I get my jeans at Kohl's. My sister showed me some tummy flattener jeans she bought there and of course I went right back and got some LOL! :)
This started out as a shopping trip. I always did love shopping, but alas:mad:
It was fun with all the things each one of you added your thoughts. I was just getting geared up for the 4 inch heels and the whole deal, just like the "eighty something" went blowing past Gimpy.
I asked this little lady right before Christmas, shoppers agolore where on earth did she find her fancy walker. She told me, very sweet about it. I guess you could say she "blew past" me with the fancy walker as I struggled on with my plain old walker . Man, it is hard to shop getting about with a walker.
And the people!! how Rude can you get?? Telling ANYBODY to get out of their way they had shopping to do.!! I was livid. My sweet tennyboppers thought they were going to have to call 911!! They never saw their granny get in such a snit, muchless in public!
They grabed my stuff, went to the counter and told them I was not well and I had been waiting forever, please wait on her next . Well the Rude crowd had to wait after all *littledevil.
I think the sales lady looked at me and thought I was about to go POSTAL, stick my walker in front of them and let them have a little fun , see how it feels to not be able to get around themselves.
Anyway, I still want the shopping trip, but the girls talked about where to put their old stuff. things were mentioned, but Goodwill and Battered Womens Homes were the toppers. Now that made my heart feel good.
I always knew you were a great group, but I see the "helping each other" theme is a good idea. thank you girls for all the responces and the light hearted fun. It feels good sometimes to laugh.
I love you all, Jo *hugs

Kathi,
The foam is all one piece, moves with you and maybe an 1/8" thick. God knows I don't need any extra! You have to get used to them, I know I did, because I hadn't worn a bra much except for those little cotton ones, no shaping. They really make my sweaters look good!
