Deb,

Wow I'm so sorry you're having so many problems with the Methadone. I know that opiates in general can cause swelling especially in the legs and ankles.

Deb I would really suggest that you try and contact your doctor tommorrow if they're in the office. It could be the Methadone, but you've been on it long enough that it could be something else altogether.

I really hope you feel better soon. It such a hard thing when we have to change our meds especially when everything was going well with what we were on before. I hope you DH gets insurance soon.

OMG Deb, I have no idea what to say except get this checked out asap. Not a good time of year to go without shoes LOL, sorry.

I hope you get some answers and some relief without too much pain.

Deb,
I started swelling with taking Lyrica. Are you also on that or something similar? I take Lasix for the water gain, and it helps some but not enough to make all of it go away.
You should contact your doctor tomorrow and let them know that it's happening..

I am having problems too from starting the Lyrcia, but I am just gonna ask my dr for a mild water pill. I will take it as needed. Maybe you could ask your dr for one?

Sandi I did the same thing with Lyrica. I was working at the time and had to just wear socks to work. Not Thank God one one could see my feet. I worked at a gas place and you drove up to the window to pay. 10-12 hours stright on my feet. No breaks but could sit on the job when I could. But I loved the Job. I will call Dr Wed when they come back. Because it is bad. And it has been while taking Methadone

Deb, I am sorry to hear about this new symptom. I know it isn't comfortable when you have that much swelling. I hope you are able to get in to see your doctor Wed. For now, keep your feet elevated as much as you can.

Deb,
I agree with the others about seeing the Dr.

I have to say though I believe it is the methadone, I can't believe that I put myself through the hell I did all that time I was on it, now that is all out of my system and I can think clearer I realize how bad a medication that was for me.

Are you at least getting any better PM from it, I'll be so happy for you when you can get off this.
I know it is a great med for many and thought it was for me at the time.

Keep us updated.

Hugs,
Linda

I know that Methadone is good for pain. But it is not good with me on the SE. I have so many and I am so tired of writing them down any more. Yes now that I have up my med it is working on the pain. I am having breathing troubles. I can hang till Friday she will change them. Thank you God. But Some days I would rather take the Pain then the SE. water pills. I didn't take the pills they told me they would be best to wait for the Dr to let me know. It is going to be ruff going to a new one. This is why I didn't want to do this in the first place. But didn't have a chose but to go on Methadone. I wish it did work cause it does help with the pain now. And it is cheap. I will only go up about $30. a month so not bad.
I will call Dr in Am about my body swelling. Face hand feet legs etc..

Thank for caring all. So sorry but fill down for the last week.

Deb I am so sorry. Yes Methadone can suppress the respiratory system. One night I stupidly took an Ambien cr before bed after taking a Methadone and kept waking up to breathe. Very scary. Another SE can be depression but the side effects you are suffering from can cause depression alone. I hope your doc can get this taken care of quickly.

I started noticing my legs and face would swell with water retention. I was on Avinza at the time. At first my doctor recommended me getting some compression socks which I did. The next month I saw the doctor and he switched me to the Duragesic Patch because there had been cases where Morphine could cause edema or water in the legs. It has been a year since switching to Duragesic and my legs and face still swell. The doctor prescribed a lasix pill along with potassium because the lasix can make your joints to hurt basically because you rid your body of minerals. I don't take the lasix daily although he suggested I do. I told him it made me feel really weak so he didnt push me taking it daily. I only take it if I have a good bit of water retention and I can easily tel if I push on my legs. The doctor was very concerned with the edema so he ordered a Heart echo just to rule out Congestive heart failure. The test showed no problem so he then had me have a CT scan of my abdomen which I had last month. He wanted to check for any blockages that could be causing the edema. Those test came back ok also. Ask the doctor to check to see if the edema is caused from something besides the meds. I still have no answer to why I have edema so I have just learned to live with it. Maybe one day the doctor will have an answer. Take care, Brian

As blood flow out of the heart slows, blood returning to the heart through the veins backs up, causing congestion in the tissues. Often swelling (edema) results. Most often there's swelling in the legs and ankles, but it can happen in other parts of the body, too. Sometimes fluid collects in the lungs and interferes with breathing, causing shortness of breath, especially when a person is lying down.

Deb,
Not good SE please tell the Dr about the breathing problems and EVERYTHING today, not to scare you but this is the reason that many Dr's are hesitant about rx'ng this med.
I had the shortness of breathe with it also, I truly didn't realize how bad off I was on this med til finally getting off, I have so many different spine problems and others, I honestly didn't know which was which..
Good luck,
Linda

Deb just cause your dr. prescibes it you dont have to take it. Side effects can be very serious especially ones with breathing problems . Sounds like you need to quit that med. There are others out there.
