Hi all, I have a really interesting article regarding research on PMS. I have terrible PMS and have often wondered if it is really PMDD. Every time is different, I have no idea what to expect from month to month. Some I can do relatively well, and some I just want to stay in bed unconcious for 2 weeks LOL.

Cyclical changes in calcium metabolism across the menstrual cycle in women with premenstrual dysphoric disorder. (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/sites/entrez?db=pubmed&uid=17488795)Cyclical fluctuations of the calcium-regulating hormones may help us better understand some of the psychological and somatic features of PMDD. The lack of responsiveness in vitamin D metabolism resulting in a decline in 1,25(OH)(2)D during the luteal phase of the menstrual cycle may serve as the biological trigger for the classical features of PMDD.
You can only gain full control of your calcium regulating mechanism if your vitamin D status is always above 80nmol/l. (this is also the level at which Colon cancer incidence is 72% lower so it's worth achieving anyway.
However as the lowest overall incidence of all cancers occurs around 130nmol/l it may be worth going the whole way.
At this time of the year in the northern hemisphere above lat 40 it will take the average UK/Canadian resident 2200iu/daily to achieve 80nmol/l and 4400iu/d to achieve 125nmol/l. (http://www.cfp.ca/cgi/content/full/53/5/841?maxtoshow=&HITS=10&hits=10&RESULTFORMAT=&fulltext=vitamin+d&searchid=1&FIRSTINDEX=0&sortspec=relevance&resourcetype=HWCIT) Expect it to take 2-3 months to achieve a result as it will take that long for the vit d stores to be filled.
