taken a vacation by yourself? I mean, since you've had kids, have you left them for any length of time and gone on a solo vacation?
If so, where did you go? What fun things did you do?
I normally go on two big conference business trips each year, one in May and one in October. That is my "me time" for the year, 3 or 4 days by myself in a hotel far from home, spending every hour from 8 a.m. until bedtime attending courses, teaching courses, and networking to get more work. Fun, right? Let me remind you that I have to pay for all of this, no employer to cover my travel expenses, as I am self-employed. No lavish meals, no partying late at night, just me and my tv remote in the hotel room with a room service menu (if I feel really wealthy that week) or carryouts (if I feel really poor that week).
Next year, I really want to spend some "me time" that doesn't involve doing this conference thing, so I'm skipping the October conference and planning to run away for a week sometime in the fall.
However, as with all Moms, I have to work it around the kids' school schedule (Can't be gone during the first few weeks of school!!! ), Dad's work and meeting schedule (Can't be gone when he has already committed to meetings out of town a year in advance  ), and my work schedule (that is the easy one, I'll tell all my clients at least 6 months in advance that I'm "calling in sick" during my week away  ).
So, tell me about your "away time" and reassure me that I'll have a great time, OK?
I'm thinking of actually skipping the country, going up to coastal Canada (Prince Edward Island or Nova Scotia) for the week, with my bike attached to the back of the car, and doing nothing but bike ride, sit on windy beaches (no swimming, that water is darned cold), and eat lots of seafood.
Whatcha' think?
