I bought my DH, Paparder an early Christmas gift, a Triumph (newer)M/C. He FELL ASLEEP coming home from work on the 13th at about 8 am (he works a 12 1/2 shift either days or graves back and forth) We think the bike may have lamded on HIM!. When I got to the hospital, I had taken our daughter to the DRS she had been in the hospital for breathing prblems for several days. 9I sorta knew something was wrong becasue he was supposed to come home and wake us up and didn't--then when we got home he wasn't home, we both grabbed the poirta-phone and befre I could dial the local hospital, the phone rang and the hospittal name came up...I made HEr answer). It it always my worst nightmare ,that he will get hurt badly..or worse. Anyway, we get to the ER and they are going to send him home. He CANNOT SSIT UP. Has two broken ribs andsomething broken in his shoulder. PLUS add to that what his body went thru hitting the ground at freeway speeds. I pitched a FIT and said i wasn't going to bring him home. He was incabable of taking care of himself. sofinally they get one of the Hospitalist in and let him stay for like two days, then they send him to some Rehab, in a terriable area, and the first night he was there his roommate DIED...wow that was a happy thing..oh sad really. They didn't even know he was dead for two hours. His greandaughter was rubbing his arm and sining to himand when they came in to take vitals he was gone. (really when you think about it, it was sort of a pretty way to go, with your grand daugter singing to you.)But it is the pain that is the issue. They keep playing around with his pain meds every day. They almost had him comfy, so of course they had to cahnge that. And he is coming home Friday (THANK YOU GOD!!!)But, they have to have his pain meds right. He is almost paniced about that. i am not sure he realises he is gonna be in some pain with this, and that falling off you bike at 65plus miles and hours is gonna hurt you body for a while. What has been greatis that his rare blood problem hasn't appear. He has this problem with his blood that they don't reaaly know what it is. But when he has trauma (and I would call this trauma) his blood goes whacko-it seeps and bruises and well, just acts really bizarelly. He has to have blood trsfusion and everything else. So Thank you God, that hasn't reared its ugly face.

So Keep Paparider in prayer, that the Drs get the right combo of pain meds, and that his blood doesn't goe screwy.

Merry Christmas mamarider

Mamarider, I am glad that it is much better news than you would expect with that kind of motorcycle accident. It is good that he is coming home Friday. It sounds like it has been a quite an experience all around and it is wonderful that he wasn't hurt much worse. I hope that they get him back to being comfortable again and quit messing with his pain meds.

Have a Merry Christmas and I will keep him in my prayers.

Mamarider I am glad that he is going to be fine. It could have been cause he did fall a sleep that helped save him. His body wasn't stiffen up for the fall. Cause his body was limp. I bet his body knows that asphalt don't give very well.
Good to hear he is coming home. Hope he does get his pain meds right. He will need that.
Merry Christmas to you both
Deb

MamaRider,

I'm so sorry that your DH is hurt, but it's a blessing that he's going to be okay. I've had one family member and another friend that wasn't so lucky after laying down a bike.
I can't believe that the hospital was actually going to send him home. I'm so glad that you spoke up and got them to keep him and also that he's getting some PT.
I was thinking about the pain meds and how they keep changing them so he's not really getting proper relief. I think you should make sure that you write down everything they've tried so far and include the level of relief he got from each one. I would make sure that you talk to the doctor and tell him that the weekend is coming up and you're concerned about making sure that your DH remains comfortable.
I had called my doctor today to ask a question and was reminded that Monday is Christmas Eve so their office will be closed ALL weekend plus Monday and Tuesday!! I would've never thought about the fact that many places will be closed from the weekend until Wednesday.
Good luck to you and your family!!

Merry Christmas!!

DH is home now and trying to deal with the pain...poor guy. He has YET to go look at the BIKE. He is 100% sure he fell asleep riding. Which dor the life of me I don'g get. Now I can fall asleep in the car no prob, but on the BIKE --NO WAY. I truly believe (and now I am right) it takes both our minds woking when wwe are riding. (well at least together, and now by himself too) The poor guy works a 12 1/2 hr shift either days or nighs, back and forth. And some times not enough time off. It is just getting to him. No matter what we think, neither one of us is getting younger (I can just dye my hair--lol)But back to pain, man he is suffering. When you whack the pavement at about 65miles an hour and have the bike land on tope (insult to injury-tho it did save the bike some) you really have some soft tissue owies.

Soft tissue owies for sure, mamarider! Wow, is he lucky, though I'm sure he's not feeling that right now. I hope he's scheduled for a follow-up soon. In the meantime - the squeaky wheel gets the grease - as you've already seen. I'd get on the phone and see if they can do more to keep him comfortable.

Now, if he has a history of blood clotting problems you better keep an eye on him. Any dark stools or spitting blood or nosebleeds and off to the ER you go.

Good luck and take care.

MamaRider, It is good to hear he is home and I hope the pain issues are a temporary problem. It is miraculous that he is home so soon after that kind of accident. I know you will baby him the way a husband needs to be babied [sometimes we want our mama's care once again even though we are men]. Fuss over him and remember to take care of yourself or both of you will be down for a while. Have Happy and Thankful New Year

MR,

Glad to hear that DH is home and doing well other than his pain issues. I'm sure with some meds and some TLC from you he will get through this.

Take care of yourself and DH and may you both have a Happy New Year!!
