it is perfectly allright to use more then one user name. one person can register multiple times under different usernames. it is called "multiple faces" it allowes people to post under a different "face". allthough it is probably not allowed for 'banned' people. on April 26,2007 i posted under the thread 'Forum wall balloning out???' In my opinion, I DO NOT feel that multiple user names should be permitted. After all, this is a site for people who have had annies, brain injuries from surgery or strokes and using multiple usernames can only confuse someone. It also gives someone an opportunity to play unsupportive games and I think we are all too old for that. As far as a group "having mud on their hands", it is my opinion that this little group is made up of very caring, supportive people who are tired of the unsupportive games and behavior. There is no mud on their hands.

Do you really feel it's ok to "pretend" to be another aneurysm sufferer, to make up a history , to make up a life, complete with symptoms and pain and happiness that doesn't exist? What kind of sick game is that to have "multiple faces"? Does this mean that some people are "two faced" or "three faced"?

Hi Lori,

The forum does permit multiple user names. If you really feel that strongly about the policy, you could let the Moderators or Admin know how you feel. But I'm not sure there is a way for them to prevent it if someone is determined. A person could use another email address, they could use another computer. This would make it difficult for the Moderator to determine if it is really the same individual.

Just my thoughts.

I think it means there are just some very bad people out there in the world. And unfortunately they are good at finding targets...:(

Yes, multiple usernames are permitted here. Here is the section of the TOS that explains this: http://brain.hastypastry.net/forums/faq.php?faq=btc_ettiquette#faq_btc_poliy_multiple_ usernames

I hope this clarifies any confusion regarding this issue.

Well I have read this and can understand that there is no way to stop people who choose to abuse this privelage . I also agree that there are times when this would be a good thing ,and help those who need help . How ever when abused & people not only take on a new face but a whole made up story of something as life shattering as a brain aneurysm and start belittling those who have had their lives changed or lost people they love to brain Aneurysm , or have to live with brain aneurysms ,and the stress that puts people under . Dealing with this type of person who abuses the trust of a suport group is found in most areas of life but non the less , shocking and hard to believe what some will do for the good of only them selves .

Oh, for heavens sake this is quite ridiculous! As far as I am concerned, what you see is what you get - warts and all.

If I were to say something that upset somebody and they put me on ignore, or I got a 'smack' from the mods then so be it. The last thing I would do would be to 'reinvent myself' and pretend to be something/someone I am not.

If people choose not to read my posts, then that is their choice - I am not so duplicitous as to create a new persona so that I can ram my opinion down the throats of those who do not wish to share it.

Love me or leave me - it's up to you.

The only way to protect you from malicious posters coming back under different names is to place this forum under moderation. Meaning that when you make a post it will not show up until and admin or moderator read and approve it.

Yes we do ban usernames and in dire cases ip addresses. Banning an ip address isn't as effective as you may think. To be effective you need to ban a range of ip addresses, however this could result in an innocent poster being banned. Therefore we use ip bans as a last resort.

We take the appropriate action as soon as we are aware of a problem.

Wow,
I've been away for a few days and I can't believe what I'm reading, muliple user names??? and its allowed??? Excuse me for being so nieve to think all along poeple were being sincere in their stories and problems. This is a serious brain event we have all been through and people come here for help and advice, not to be tricked and misguided by a few that enjoy taking on different idenitiies. There is somthing very wrong with that. for those of you, and you know who you are, maybe you should find a multiple personality disorder site that would suit your needs better. Very dissapointed and disillousioned right now, and may stay away.

I must be slow..I always thought everyone was who they said they were too..
I appologize if anyone signed on as a new member, only to be an old member in disquise, and I didn't recognize you. I probably rambled on, and on, thinking you were new. lol...dumb me...
For future reference, maybe yall could email me and fill me in...lol.
As far as I know, I don't know anyone who has done this. And it would be very very confusing if it happened. I have a hard time, trying to keep all the members, that I do know, and their stories and journeys straight.
I love to meet new members, and really enjoy hearing their stories. I hope new members don't stop posting here. I learn from you all. I'm sad that any of us have to be here in the first place, but, it's nice to know we can come here for support.
Have a great day all...take care Cin

Cin...what is being said is it's not old members coming back as new...it's banned members, people who have left because of personally problems, and others who want to come on here to play head games and start trouble because they have nothing better to do. They don't do a pay it forward...they do a pay you back for hurting my feelings.

I haven't been been visiting the forum much for multiple reasons. I have to say that I was disappointed to see what has been going on. Most people here are great and have been both informative and comforting. It's sad to think that some people can see any of us as an open target to vent their anger or fears on. I truly don't understand the multiple user names. I felt as if I actually had gotten to know many people here and my poor head doesn't like to deal with the complication. It's a trust issue. I felt I've posted pretty personal things in the past and felt safe with it. It would be sad if newbies no longer felt free to open up about personal questions or fears about their aneursyms. Well, if I could change the world......

This is the final post on this thread. I don't want this to be brought up again as there is no point in doing so.

Between last night before going to bed, and for about one and a half hours today I've been checking usernames and ips to see who is using more than one username on this forum.

Rest assured the only duplicate ip addersses are from members that were banned or suspended and signed up again with a new name.

That should abate any fears or trepidation that people aren't who they say they are.

Creating multiple accounts is only a violation of the terms of service when doing so is done to circumvent a suspension or banning or to cause trouble.
