Oh yes, baby was due on Dec 2 according to me and yesterday according to my midwife.

Looking like my midwife knows what she's doing because baby is still sticking around and using my uterus as a comfy jacket.

She thinks he might be here around the 19th. I sure hope its today LOL!

My back and hips really hurt so I lay down a lot! I just cant wait to get it over with!

Thanks for checking up on me!:D

Are you kidding - leave him/her right where he/she is at - this is easiest he/she will ever be to feed, entertain and keep warm! Plus NO BACKTALK! ;)

No really, I hope baby just pops out, sleeps thru the night, and latches on like a frat boy. Not an irish proverb but it should be.

i thought "Atahualpa" was already born ....Ooops ! my mistake. You are feeling like i did with my third one, tired, so at 8 months i said to the doctor i am tired and i am ready...he said wait 2 more weeks,so he was born at 8 1/2 months...
what was the name you choose for your "Mayta Capac"? "Huairacocha" ? :D

Sorry I havent posted in a few days!

We did have our baby on friday night at 11:10pm.

Here is the story I put on my myspace--- its so long-- this just saves me some time typing it out again!

This is a combination of my experience and my midwife's account of things. I think she describes what went on better than I do, but I will comment on things I experienced too.

I had been having contractions for about a day. Usually my labors start and finish quickly and are not particularly painful. These contractions, in my words to whoever wanted to know 'really sucked'.

The night before, I was having the contractions while laying in bed, but I was able to sleep thru them. After I had taken the kids to school in the morning, I realized they really hadnt let up and were coming between 10 and 20 mins apart, but werent super strong-- just enough to 'suck'.

The kids had their Christmas program at school-- I opted to stand on the side-- sitting REALLY hurt if one hit.

Around 6 I called Laura and let her know what was going on and if I needed to just try to sleep them off, since my cervix was absolutely unfavorable a few short days before. She said that it could be a possibility that I get to have this sort of fun for a few days, but to look for an obvious change in the situation.

About 3 hours later, I called back and told her the fun had decided to happen more often-- to the tune of 6-8 minutes apart. I started to worry because my kids had torn the house apart already and I asked if I could come up and just see if this baby was doing anything at all, because I had to stand with every contraction and lean against the wall for support. She said she could come down and I told her I didnt want to deliver a baby in my house in the state it was in, if in fact we were having a baby that night.

My mom came over right away to watch the kids. I grabbed the carseat a blanket and some clothes, just in case. It took us about 40-45 minutes to drive in the horrible rain up to her house. And I was a backseat driver the whole way LOL But thankfully, we got there Ok.

The contractions were actually milder on the way up there, but not much closer together.

When I got there, she checked me and I was about 8cm, but the baby's head was WAY up and my cervix was not as thin as it should have been--- because baby's head was way up.

She put me in the tub and turned the jets on. It was ALL I needed to relax and things started getting closer together right away.

This is where Im going to post Laura's account of the night because she puts it all together really well.

Jonah Michael was born tonight [Dec 14, 2007] at 11:10pm, 9# 12oz, Mom Amanda had had intermittent contractions for 24 hours, baby number 5, so came to my office for me to see her, check on the baby and she if she was close to having this baby. She arrived ab out 10:10pm, good fetal heart tones, about 8cm, the baby felt high, membranes intact, so we were excited, well on our way, would probably have the baby by midnight. Amanda got up into the tub, the contractions kicked in good and strong about 10:30pm, by 11pm, they were every 2 minutes. So I thought I would check her, at 11:05, she was still about 8 cm, but the head had moved down and her water broke when I checked her, and there was a cord. We immediately got her out of the tub, on the bed, I listened to heart tones, now about 40, I called 911, and told Amanda that we were just going to push until this baby came out, my 6 year old grand daughter Victoria, called Sandy, my faithful helped, prayer warrior, that I needed her right now, she came immediately, 11:07, heart tones about 20, 11:08, no heart tones, we pushed from 8cm, to complete with about 10 inches of cord hanging out, Robert was praying, we all were praying, 11:09, I could see the babies head, Sandy was here, 11:10 baby boy, no respiration's, but a heart rate of about 30, I immediately stimulated him, gave him to his mom, and he started whimpering and then crying, we all were crying at this point. We were all thankful, the room was silent, we were all just so overwhelmed and thankful. I had called 911 back and told them the baby was out and crying, so canceled the call, the paramedic was already on his way, so he came, he said he was just so anxious too and wanted to see that everything was OK, he was very nice, professional, and thankful too. This was the fourth prolapse cord I have had in 25 years, two were not in active labor, were transported to the hospital, had emergency c-sections. The other one, was in Olympia a few years ago, with basically the same scenario, good outcome. Wow, my heart actually ached, I had to sit down, I was silent. This was one of the most intense moments in my life. I went over and laid on the bed with the mom and hugged her and her baby, I didn't want to let go. Prolapse cords are every practitioners nightmare, 95% of the time, there is a bad outcome, usually death to the baby.
I am so thankful Amanda was right here with me, at home, that the water broke when I checked her, so I could feel the cord, act immediately, and that Amanda was strong and pushed her baby out so hard, that I was composed, did all the right things, and knew that God was in control. We are all so thankful. I have delivered 8 babies in two weeks, with 6 more due this month. It is amazing to feel God's peace, HIS presence and most of all HIS direction. I have experienced God's amazing wisdom and his love. I believe, I really believe.
Laura

---

I have never been faced with an experience that the life or death of my child was in something I had to do. While I was pushing, I still didnt think I was pushing hard enough-- I still didnt feel like I was giving it everything, even though I knew I was.

I am the sorest I have ever been in my life-- that stretching is NOT fun at all-- and Laura could have broken my pelvis and I would have counted it all gain if thats what it took to bring Jonah here-- my son is alive!

Every one of us was crying out to the God of creation for help and He heard us and had mercy on us. And He deserves ALL praise for bringing Jonah here alive.

Originally, his name was going to be Jonah Solomon, but even before the trauma began, Robert decided he wasnt too crazy about it. After everything, I was sitting on the couch nursing Jonah. Robert was outside getting something out of the van and Laura was in the house doing something and I said "Oh God, who is like You? Who could have brought this baby forth like You?" And I said "Of course, Michael would be the best middle name for you" because the meaning of Michael is a question "Who is like God?"

For anyone reading here-- NOBODY is like God. If you dont know Him, now is the time to get to know Him. Death could be seconds away like it could have been for my son. Only His salvation will save us from the eternal fires of hell.

If you need to know more about that, ask me.

Anyway, our child is born! He's alive and doing GREAT!!!!

I'll post some pics in a little bit ;)

Well, my first thought was "and God brought forth Jonah safely from the belly of the whale" - but you're probably too sore yet to find the humor in that...;) I'm so glad you are both safe and well.

At all events my congratulations after this hairy experience. We need to do a lot of praying in every faith, to bring forth healthy babies

Amanda, Congratulations on a healthy baby boy!
I cried when I was reading about your baby arriving safe after the ordeal.
As soon as I read that she felt the cord, I remember that been my biggest fear when I was pg with Josh and about to term.

I am so glad things turned out like they did. What a scary situation. And what a blessing to have a practitioner that turns to God in time of crisis!!

Give little Jonah an extra hug from me.

Oooooooooooooh! I'll bet it is a passifier! Didn't think GM was the type to post an anatomically correct balloon boy- but the placement of that item was a bit of a fluke!!
