Hi. I'm very worried about my mom. She's almost 83 and for the past month or so she's had severe pain in her left breast.

When it first started, she thought it was her side. She thought it had something to do with her diabetes medication because she used to take Actos, but then her doctor said it's in the same family as Avandia, which might cause heart failure, and switched her to Metformin. Ever since she took the metformin, she's had problems with constipation which she never had before, so she thought this had something to do with that. Also on her last blood test, her liver enzymes were a little high, but the liver is on the right side, not the left.

Anyway, now she has determined that the pain is actually in her breast because it hurts when she touches it. 50 years ago she had operations for cysts, and she says now that it hurts where she had those operations.

We're going to the doctor next week, but I'm worried sick. She says she can't feel any lumps. Do you think she might have breast cancer? Have any of you had it with pain?

Try not to worry. All my research over breast cancer scares indicated there is never any pain involved! (not the same with other cancers however).

Have you checked her for any bruises? Sometimes those can be very painful & we're not even aware of getting them.

You might research the Metforim,it caused me leg pain so I stopped taking it after a very short time. We also have a diabetes forum here on BT,I know several people are on the Metforim.

wishing your mother luck, and please don't stress over this.....Buttons
